I am surprised that Beal declined his $5.6M player option.  Sounds like he expects more than that in his new contract (certainly not a min contract).  I don't see how BOS signs him.  BOS could offer the full bi-Annual exemption I believe ($5.5M).  That would put us over the tax but still under the first arpon hard cap.  But would he even take that?  Why decline $5.6M to take $5.5M. 

Sign and trade is an option I suppose, we could offer Hauser, but how much do you want to pay Beal for probably less than 50 games, based on his recent history.

Yeah, that was a little surprising.  If he thought he was going to get that his agent did not do his job well.  But he is still getting paid by Phoenix, so half of what he gets above the minimum goes to Phoenix instead.  Accordingly, with the Clippers likely taking a step back this year he might have just wanted to find a competitor  to join, since the difference between the minimum and what he would have earned from his player option was less than $1 million, after accounting for the Phoenix offset.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned on here, but the Spurs signed Tobias Harris for 2 years, $31 million.

I think that's a nice signing for them.

With the Joe Smith situation back in the day, I think the "smoking gun" was a disgruntled agent. In this case, I doubt you will have anyone willing to come clean. I'm interested what the burden of proof would be.

Isn't this the same exact thing the Bucks did with both Lopez and Portis? I mean, at some point this is a pattern they are exploiting.

The Detroit Pistons are still considering whether to pursue DeMar DeRozan in free agency, sources told Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

The Raptors have already confirmed their interest in signing DeRozan.

DeRozan's potential suitors will become clearer once LeBron James makes his free agency decision.

The Pistons would be a good fit for DeRozan. They desperately need some shot creation. DeRozan wouldn't disrupt their offense since they have no offense outside of Cade's one man show.

Lu Dort wasn't really too pivotal. A core piece like a Payton Pritchard type player sure.

They still have their Big 3 of SGA, Chet, and J-Will the three important players. OKC still back in it next year

It is not surprising that OKC is being forced to get their salary back under the second apron.  This is the new reality of the NBA.  There is no doubt that owners are treating this as a hard cap.

I think OKC will still be good, but now not as deep.  Injuries will be harder for them to deal with.  SAS could be the next title team to be forced to break things up.  Castle comes up first, and then Harper.  Both will be pushed to accept less than the max rookie extensions that they would have gotten in the past.  Fox is now in a tough spot like Brown, only worse.  He is not really a max player but has a max contract, through 2029/30.  I don't see how SAS gets out of that deal.

I like the starting Dort option better but I wonder about trying to bring both K Flemings and CJ McCollum off the bench. Two small guards. Harder to get Flemings minutes he needs to develop.

I love the defense of that NAW / Dort / D Daniels perimeter trio. Jalen Johnson and a mobile big in Okongwu too. Fun defensive group.

OKC are still loaded in the backcourt. 5 guards who are starting material. SGA, Cason, Caruso, Ajay and McCain (debatable). They have only one true wing in J-Dub but those are mostly big combo guards who can defend most SFs comfortably. So OKC should be fine.
