Brian Windhorst

Quote
"A key factor in any sort of Philadelphia pursuit of LeBron is Tyrese Maxey - not only because of his talent, but because he is one of Klutch Sports' core clients and is basically part of LeBron's extended family," Windhorst said.

"There's a longstanding relationship between Tyrese Maxey and LeBron because of Klutch. They recruited Maxey out of college, have nurtured him throughout his career, and they've been to many events together.

Joel Embiid also won a gold medal with LeBron on Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and that team definitely has a close bond."

The Warriors, meanwhile, have been given indications from James that they remain on his short list, but team sources have expressed a recent belief that they aren't necessarily at the top of that short list, as James continues to survey the landscape.

Michael Scotto: Sources: The Minnesota Timberwolves and Trey Lyles have agreed to a 1-year deal. Lyles returns to the NBA after playing for Real Madrid. He?s averaged 7.6 points and 4.3 rebounds with the Jazz, Nuggets, Spurs, Pistons and Kings.

A replacement for Kyle Anderson. A downgrade I reckon.

Still, he is the only big forward on their roster so he should get some playing time as things stand.

Another tweet said Trey Lyles shot 43% on threes for Real Madrid in Europe last season. He shot 36% in SAC his last 4 years in the NBA on good volume (6.4 threes per 36min, 3.4 3PTA in 19.1mpg)

Marc Stein: The Lakers are now pursuing both a wing defender and a backup big man after lining up a Deandre Ayton-to- Washington trade which adds $2 million in financial wiggle room for their summer business, league sources sa

Is that Ayton trade official? Or just a rumour?

Oh, it is real.

Quote
The Los Angeles Lakers are trading center Deandre Ayton to the Washington Wizards for guard Jaden Hardy and two second-round picks in 2031 and 2032, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Friday.

Good deal for Washington. They needed big man. They now have 3 legit bigs in AD, A Sarr and Ayton.

Questionable deal for LAL. Ayton, talent wise, would be one of the best backup centers in the league. However, I can see reasons to be worried about his commitment in a bench role. His effort may fall off the map. LAL already lost Jaxson Hayes in FA to Utah. He was solid middle of the pack backup center.

I wonder if this means they are planning on Mamu being the backup center for LAL next season.

Quote
Dan Woike: A name that's come up when talking to rival teams about a player who would fit the Lakers' current roster has been Andre Drummond. Interesting to see how the Lakers navigate the back-up center spot.

That would be a good replacement for LAL.

------------

Lakers 3rd stringers are useful players

G: Bronny
G: Jaden Hardy
F: Dalton Knecht
F: Vanderbilt
C: (none)

Their main bench players could be good if they add Drummond

G: Sexton
G: Cam Carr
F: Thiero
F: J LaRavia
C: (Drummond)

I liked Ayton rounding that bench. I felt that bench was a good bench. Above average bench. If Drummond is the replacement, it would continue to be that. If they fail to sign a quality backup center, it would drop their bench way down. Below average bench then.

LeBron James' odds of playing for the Philadelphia 76ers in 2026-27 have surged from 8.2% to 18.2% in the past 6 hours on Polymarket, a 10-point move.

Quote
After LeBron James? parting with the Lakers, his agent Rich Paul says on his podcast with Max Kellerman that he has had some level of dialogue with all but two of the NBA?s other 29 teams.

On other Philly news

Quote
Shams Charania: Free agent guard Caleb Love has agreed to a two-way NBA deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, sources tell ESPN.

Nice to see Caleb Love sticking around.

Quote
Shams Charania: The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to sign French guard Rayan Rupert on a two-way NBA deal, sources tell ESPN. Rupert, a second-round pick in 2023, split last season in Memphis and Portland.

Looked interesting in POR. I like these 2 deals for Philly.

Dorian Finny Smith traded from Houston to Charlotte for picks

To clarify, the picks are going with DFS for Charlotte to take on his salary.

3 2nd rounders

Quote
Shams Charania: The Houston Rockets are trading Dorian Finney-Smith and three second-round picks to the Charlotte Hornets, sources tell ESPN.

Quote
Shams Charania: Charlotte acquires additional draft capital -- it has 20 second-rounders over the next 7 years and now the second-most tradeable picks in the NBA.

The Rockets open roster flexibility after acquisitions of Marcus Smart and Bogdan Bogdanovic, plus create a $13 million trade exception.

I forget what Houston were hoping to do if they moved DFS. It is just not about saving money. It was about freeing up money to sign someone else.

Father Chris Carr (former NBA player) on his son Cameron Carr

Quote
"I believe he is [being overlooked]," Chris Carr said. "I'm obviously biased, but I do believe that he is - just from a standpoint of, name somebody that had 50 threes, 50 dunks, 50 blocked shots [in college last season] with his shooting ability, his length with athleticism, playing bigger, playing smaller, and the versatility and the skill set. I don't know if there's anybody in the draft that has a combination of it all."

Legler was a huge fan of Cameron Carr. So was Jason Timpf. It looks like LAL got themselves a real player there. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up starting for them by Year 2. Starting instead of Q Grimes with Grimes moving back to a bench role.

That 50 dunks, 50 threes, 50 blocks is an interesting combination. 50 threes = shooting. 50 dunks = athleticism. 50 blocks = defense. Good mix.

Jon Krawczynski on LeBron James: Tim Connelly and Rich Paul have had a strong relationship for a long time. Also notable that Paul mentions Wolves ownership group. And ?We got Jaden McDaniels.? Whatever happens, Wolves are at least in the mix. Would?ve been unfathomable just a few years ago.

That would be awesome for Minny.

Imagine LaMelo, Ant & LeBron on the same squad. Then an athletic finisher on the wing in McDaniels a big man in Gobert who does all the dirty work. That would be an awesome starting 5.

Shams Charania: Free agent forward Javonte Green has agreed to a one-year, $3.95 million deal to return to the Detroit Pistons, sources tell ESPN. Green played all 82 games for the Pistons a season ago, averaging 6.9 points, 17.6 minutes and 38.1% 3-point shooting.

Man, DET got a lot of wings.

G: Cade, D Jenkins, E Okorie (1st round pick)
G: Duncan Robinson, Isaiah Joe
F: Ausar, K Huerter, R Holland, Javonte Green
F: John Collins
C: Duren, Paul Reed

I guess it makes more sense if you are planning on Ausar Thompson to be young main backup PF. Then you need more wing depth.

6 wings otherwise with Cade likely to get some wing minutes as well in order to get more ball-handling & playmaking on the court alongside him. At the moment none of their wings provide that. Only their backup PGs do.

DET also have Marcus Sasser at guard who they are trying to trade.

Shams Charania: Restricted free agent guard Jordan Miller has pinged back to the Los Angeles Clippers on a new three-year, $15.3 million deal, sources tell ESPN. Miller served his way last season with 10 points per game on 53% from the field, and rallied to score double digits in 20 of his final 26 games last season.

LAC have now reached deals with both Jordan Miller & Kobe Sanders to keep their 2 young wings in place on relatively cheap deals for the next few years.

G: D Garland, K Dunn, Cameron Christie
G: K Sanders, Keaton Wagler
F: B Ingram, B Mathurin, Gradey Dick
F: Derrick Jones Jr, Jordan Miller
C: B Lopez, Niederhauser, Isaiah Jackson

13 legit players. Guys who can play.

They are small at PF. B Lopez is a bad rebounder. So rebounding will likely be an issue. Small and frail with D Garland, K Wagler, B Ingram. The other guys (Dunn, K Sanders, J Miller) are solid to high quality defenders on the perimeter defenders around them. Mathurin is a dodgy defender if he has to play SF rather than SG. Undersized there.  Probably be a bad defensive team. Their main guys on the perimeter are poor defenders. So a bad rebounding team & a bad defensive team.
