Well, this is umm... something.

The one free throw rule will be tested at the upcoming NBA summer leagues.

With this rule, any foul that would typically result in one, two or three free throws under standard NBA rules will instead result in a single free throw attempt. That attempt will be worth the same total number of points as the free throws it replaces.

Standard NBA free throw rules will apply during the last two minutes of the fourth quarter and throughout overtime.

I love it. My only qualm is that it rewards the defender for hacking a guy shooting a layup, and it rewards the shooter when you hack them shooting a three. It's harder to shoot a free throw than a layup, and its harder to shoot a three than a free throw.

Better yet would be a free kick. If you get fouled taking a layup, you should get a shot from 10 feet away (like a penalty kick). If you get fouled anywhere outside of 12 feet, play stops and the player shoots it from that location with defenders being unable to be within 10 feet of him.

Combine that with technical/flagrants for flopping, and also not requiring the ref to touch the ball before you inbound it after out-of-bounds or fouls, and you'd really have gameflow.

That is a creative solution.

What I would like to see happen is they change 10secs for a FTA to 5secs like they have in the international game. All the guys would adapt quickly (as they do in international competitions) and it would speed up the game.

I like that too.

The goal in my mind is to make the "free throw" shot more like a gameplay shot. Not its own separate thing.

"And the story I've told before of Pat Riley in a room having to wait to meet with LeBron, LeBron's what Phil Jackson would call LeBron's posse because this was a power game between the Phil Jacksons and Pat Rileys getting to control the sport and LeBron and his agent controlling the sport.

In the room where he was recruiting them, he had to ask them to turn off the television because they were distracted while he was doing the recruiting.

And all of that ended up being publicly humiliating because we have the pictures of Pat Riley and Andy Elisburg at a sad Las Vegas blackjack table waiting to meet with LeBron as everyone's wondering what he's going to do and Wade is flying all around him.

It is amazing that we're doing this with the oldest player in the league all these years later."

Just in: Free agent guard Anfernee Simons has agreed to a two-year, $12.3 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, with a player option in second season, sources tell ESPN. Simons chose the 76ers over other suitors believing his fit is perfect with the revamped 76ers roster.

Good for Simons.

Poor, poor Edgecomb.

Man, A Simons couldn't find a better situation than that?

We should have brought him back. Trade Hauser somewhere for cap room and bring back A Simons.

Goods for him.  Sixers rebelling against on/off metrics this off-season it seems like.

Haha, I love it. Tim Hardaway Sr won't let Tim Hardaway Jr were his #10 jersey that has been retired by the Heat.

It's mine!

Jorge Sierra: As of now, the Blazers' summer league roster features only 12 players, the fewest of any NBA team that has announced its roster so far. No other team has fewer than 15. Very on brand!

I never understood why SL rosters were allowed get so big. There isn't enough opportunities for 15 guys to play and show what they can do. You get these bite sized opportunities instead.

They should limit SL rosters to 10 players. 2 players each position.

Ian Begley: Around the NBA Draft, Pelicans signaled that Yves Missi would not be available via trade and will in New Orleans under new head coach Jamahl Mosely

Oh, so maybe it is the coach who is pushing to keep Missi.

I do not think THJ would have wanted to wear it anyway.  They do not have a strong relationship, unless that has changed recently.

Brown and Simons was a very poor 2-man line up last season for BOS.  Other than some limited time that Simons was on the floor with Amari Williams and Tillman, his time on the floor with Brown was his worst in terms of +/-.

Which was true for many players last year.

THJ typically wears the number 10. He wore it last year in DEN and has done so on 3 of his 5 teams. On a 4th team, the Knicks, it was retired for Walt Frazier. When he went to DAL, it was taken by another player (DFS) and he switched to it after that player left. That leaves DET. I am not sure why THJ did not wear it in DET. Oh, it's retired there as well. Dennis Rodman. I did not know that.

So THJ wears whenever he can.

-------------

I am surprised they don't have a good relationship. Tim Hardaway Sr was at his playoff games for DEN last season supporting him.

My mistake.  I totally got my second-generation NBA former Michigan Wolverines confused.  It was Glenn Robinson III who has a poor relationship with his NBA father.

Meanwhile, after the Hawks fully guaranteed Buddy Hield?s $9.66 million salary for the 2026-27 season, the 33-year-old sharpshooter has remained in potential trade conversations.

I wonder why they kept Buddy. His days as a rotation player in the NBA appear to be over. He should be a minimum contract 3rd stringer at this point.

Expiring salary to send out in a trade.
