Shams Charania: The Memphis Grizzlies are trading Santi Aldama to the Dallas Mavericks for AJ Johnson, a protected 2030 Warriors first-round pick and two future second-round picks, sources tell ESPN

Man, this is a nice get for Dallas.

I wish Brad did that trade. Aldama would have been a great backup forward for us.

Quote
Bobby Marks: The $17M salary of Aldama goes into the $20.8M exception created from the Anthony Davis trade in February. Aldama has 2 years left: $17M and $17M (T) Johnson has 2 years left: $3.2M and $5.4M (T)

I am trying to figure out Dallas' forward depth now.

G: Kyrie, Ryan Nembhard
G: Max Christie, Klay Thompson, S de Larrea
F: Cooper Flagg, Naji Marshall, Caleb Martin
F: PJ Washington, Santi Aldama, Morez Johnson
C: D Lively, D Gafford

They got more forwards than they know what to do with. They just selected Morez Johnson in the draft and can't get him any playing time. They got 4 forwards who deserve 30+mpg. Then Caleb Martin as a 5th forward and their lotto pick as a 6th forward.

KOC believes San Antonio got worse by adding Tobias Harris. Not a fan of Harris. Average low volume offensive efficiency + replacement level defense. KOC also believes his addition will stop the development of Carter Bryant.

KOC would prefer San Antonio did not spend the MLE at all over signing Tobias Harris with it.

Free agent center Marvin Bagley III has agreed to a one-year deal with the Denver Nuggets, sources tell ESPN. A critical frontcourt addition for the Nuggets.

I am guessing Bagley will be their new backup center behind Jokic and they will waive Valanciunas in the next few days. Only $2mil of his $10mil deal is guaranteed. And he has another contract lined up back in Europe in Lithuania.

The one free throw rule will be tested at the upcoming NBA summer leagues.

With this rule, any foul that would typically result in one, two or three free throws under standard NBA rules will instead result in a single free throw attempt. That attempt will be worth the same total number of points as the free throws it replaces.

Standard NBA free throw rules will apply during the last two minutes of the fourth quarter and throughout overtime.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was ready to sign off on a trade to Boston, but the Celtics refused to give him the three-year max extension he wanted and were only willing to offer two years, per
@BillSimmons

If that's true, then yikes. They botched the whole situation in more ways than one.

If you wanted Giannis, you needed to fully commit. They didn't and ended up in a bigger mess

I love it. My only qualm is that it rewards the defender for hacking a guy shooting a layup, and it rewards the shooter when you hack them shooting a three. It's harder to shoot a free throw than a layup, and its harder to shoot a three than a free throw.

Better yet would be a free kick. If you get fouled taking a layup, you should get a shot from 10 feet away (like a penalty kick). If you get fouled anywhere outside of 12 feet, play stops and the player shoots it from that location with defenders being unable to be within 10 feet of him.

Combine that with technical/flagrants for flopping, and also not requiring the ref to touch the ball before you inbound it after out-of-bounds or fouls, and you'd really have gameflow.

Or give the 3 point shooter the option of taking one FT for 2 points or a 3 for 3.
Yup

That is a creative solution.

What I would like to see happen is they change 10secs for a FTA to 5secs like they have in the international game. All the guys would adapt quickly (as they do in international competitions) and it would speed up the game.

Sources: New York Knicks have tried feverishly to trade for New Orleans Pelicans center Yves Missi after losing Mitchell Robinson, but offers have been rejected multiple times. Pelicans view Missi as a vital core figure and the message is that he?s unavailable.

That is unexpected. Missi played badly last season for NOP. It looked like he was pouting after Derik Queen took his minutes.

It will be interesting to see if Missi repays their belief in him by redoubling his work ethic or if he continues to pout next season.

That Rui Hachimura remains unsigned caused several league sources to wonder whether the Lakers are planning some sort of trade or using the stretch provision on perhaps Jarred Vanderbilt or Deandre Ayton to be able to offer Hachimura more.

That would make me feel better about LAL's roster - bringing back Hachimura. Start Rui, Mamu off the bench.

Just read that Tobias Harris will have around $330,000,000 in career earnings after this Spurs contract.

Good for Simons.

Poor, poor Edgecomb.
