After eight seasons with the Lakers, including leading the franchise to the 2020 NBA championship, James departs and enters free agency set to join a new team.

Lakers president Rob Pelinka and Rich Paul spoke a short time ago about the four-time champion's plans, sources said. James chose to inform the Lakers well before start of free agency tonight out of courtesy and appreciation for their run together, and to allow LA to conduct its offseason business.

Giotta preserve those agent relationships.

The center position is going to be a real problem next season for Boston.

Time to mend fences with Vuc, assuming a sign-and-trade of Kessler isn't possible.

The list of free agent centers is hot garbage:

Yeah. I miss Woj.   His stuff was much more straight to the point without all these ridiculous shoutouts and being a lapdog for people.

The Houston Rockets have significant interest in free agent guard Marcus Smart and are expected to work out a deal in the three-year, $21 million range that would reunite him with head coach Ime Udoka, sources told Dallas Hoops Journal. Such a deal would fall within the taxpayer mid-level exception threshold.

Landale back to Atlanta.

Brad needs to be roused from his nap and try to get something done for Kessler.

If his whole plan was to get a big in return for JB...that seems unlikely.

Shams Charania: Free agent Simone Fontecchio intends to sign a one-year deal to return to the Miami Heat, sources tell ESPN. Heat officials worked with Fontecchio's agent at Excel Sports Management, Sam Goldfeder, to bring back the shooter who averaged 8.5 points and 37.5% 3-point shooting.

Quote
Ira Winderman: Simone Fontecchio's actual salary will be $2.8 million for next season.

Fontecchio re-signing with Miami. I like that. Good shooter. Played well for Miami when he got a chance but they had a logjam at SF last year so did not play as much as I thought he deserved to.

They still have a bit of a logjam this year with Andrew Wiggins, Pelle Larsson and Fontecchio. Larsson a good all-rounder but not a great outside shooter. Fontecchio may have the upper-hand now that Giannis is on board and Miami need more shooting.

I don't know. I just want to see him play more. I love his game. He is fun to watch. Particularly in Miami because they did not use him solely as a spot up shooter and actually allowed him to be a proper basketball player. Unlike when he was in BOS or even in UTA.

Marc Stein: The Mavericks have emerged a leading suitor to acquire Detroit's Marcus Sasser via trade, league sources tell @TheSteinLine .
Quote
Marc Stein: On top of the full non-taxpayer MLE and a $20.3M TPE via the Anthony Davis trade, Dallas also generated a $6 million trade exception by trading away Jaden Hardy. Sasser's $5.2M salary for next season could slot into it.

So they have Kyrie and they kept Ryan Nembhard. I like Sasser for them because he is a different type of guard. More of a 3+D guard. Better variety in skill-set.

Good chance this means they are moving on from Brandon Williams who the Celtics have linked to.

LeBron tenure at the Lakers in my mind is a D-.. he did win the bubble is only reason not an F. He tried to run the franchise his way, getting or trying to get the players and coaches he wanted. Guess Bronny career is over now
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

NY Times talking about if Kawhi is traded ... that will leave Jordan Miller as the only player still remaining on the team from the 2023-24 season.

LAC will have completely turned over their roster in 2 years.

They won a title which is the whole point of the thing. Granted it was a bubble championship but its still a championship. You could probably call the rest of his Lakers tenure a bit underwhelming but the championship overrides all of that.   It's gotta be like an A-/B+.

League sources tell The Stein Line that Washington has a level interest in Russell Westbrook. The nine-time former All-Star's final season of the four in his career in which he averaged a triple-double (22.2 PPG, 11.5 RPG and 11.7 APG) came in 2020-21 with the Wizards.

marcstein.substack.com

Washington already have Trae Young & Bub Carrington. Plus D'Angelo Russell. Why are they looking at Westbrook?
