Portland has to making another move. They have Dame, Jrue, Morant, Scoot, and Sharpe in their guard rotation. That does not make sense.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I think the only player that would need to go out is Scoot Henderson.

Jrue can play off guard and Sharpe is big enough to play small forward.

I wonder if the Celtics can acquire Scoot in a non-Jaylen trade?

Scoot for Hauser and Walsh?

I missed this one - Andrew Wiggins re-ups in Miami

Quote
Anthony Chiang: So, Wiggins will make $30.2 million this upcoming season. Then he agreed a two-year, $34 million extension through the 2028-29 season.

Quote
Barry Jackson: OK, clarity on all this, from @Anthony_Chiang and me: Wiggins will get $30 M this season; he opted in (as @JakeFischer said). This gets him under contract for $17 M range next season.

$17mil a year seems fair for Andrew Wiggins. I would have valued him at the MLE. So close to that.

Quote
Anthony Chiang
@Anthony_Chiang
While the Heat's intention is to keep Andrew Wiggins, he is still immediately eligible to be traded even after agreeing and eventually signing his two-year extension.

Quote
Barry Jackson: So Heat can use about $12 M of its $15.1 M midlevel exception this season and remain under $209 M hard cap - presuming the other players they sign are on minimum deals. Wiggins' 3 year, $64 M deal includes an opt out for 2028-29. So Heat gets Wiggins guaranteed for 2 years in front-loaded deal.

Quote
Ira Winderman: According to NBA source the major giveback from Wiggins is in the first and second years of that two year-extension, taking a reduction to $16.5 million in the first year and then $17.5 million in second year. So the saving vs. cap/tax not immediate, but rather down the road.

Quote
Shams Charania: Just in: Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins intends to a sign a three-year, $64 million contract to stay with the franchise, with a player option in the third season, sources tell ESPN.

Quote
Yossi Gozlan: Miami Heat salary cap situation with Andrew Wiggins opting in, Pelle Larsson opted in, Dru Smith guaranteed, and Jahmir Young opted out. They have $20.5 million under the hard cap to fill five roster spots. It'll be much harder to re-sign Norman Powell without additional moves.

I think Boston will agree with Rob tomorrow and at least tried to address the center position in FA.

Then they have to figure out this JB mess.

Marc Stein: The Mavericks plan to exercise guard Ryan Nembhard's $2.2 million team option for next season before today's 5 PM ET deadline, league sources say.

I like Ryan Nembhard. Limited player. Not much talent. But a heady player. High IQ. Plays team ball.

One less center on the FA market.

Keith Smith: Nets could still have around $40M in cap space to use in free agency, pending how they time out acquiring Julius Randle. The signing of Day'Ron Sharpe will come after Nets have used their cap space, either through the Room Exception or remaining cap space, similiar to last year.

That is a lot of cap space.

Bobby Marks on ESPN mentioned Brooklyn as a possible Jaylen landing. I didn't see what they had to offer. My understanding is they lack picks. B Marks said they have no picks next season so a win-now player like Jaylen would be good for them. Maybe they have more future picks. Absorb most of Jaylen's contract into their cap space and give up several first rounders. Was that the idea?

Jaylen + MPJ + J Randle trio.

Quote
Michael Scotto: Breaking: The Brooklyn Nets plan to sign Day?Ron Sharpe to a two-year deal worth roughly $20 million, sources told @hoopshype . Sharpe has impressed Brooklyn and is expected to have a bigger role this season.

$10mil a year.

Quote
Shams Charania: Brooklyn Nets forward Josh Minott intends to sign a new two-year, $9 million to return to the franchise, with a team option in second season, sources tell ESPN. The Nets declined Minott?s team option to clear the way for a new contract.

That is a surprise. Why give him more than the minimum? Good to luck to him anyway. I liked his effort when he was here in Boston.

Yep, but I think it is a good sign that Ayton did not think he was going to get much more than $8.1 million.  He is not awesome, but it means the center market is likely not too hot.

Nets have a swap with Houston, so they do not control their own, but they do have one (two actually, since they also control the Knicks).  They also have a couple of their own, NY, Philly, and Phoenix in 2028 (these time more favorable ones, so they control their own pick.  It?s complex but they have 2 of those 4 including the best one).  They also have their own in 2029 plus the Knicks and one from Phoenix, Houston, or Dallas, their own in 2030, theirs and the Knicks in 2031, theirs and Denver in 2032, and their own in 2033.

So plenty of picks every year, just next year a negative swap of their own pick.

Two trades that we?re monitoring today? The Clippers and Raptors?continuing conversations on Kawhi Leonard, plus the Hawks working on a big addition.

We know Atlanta isn?t going after Goga Bitadze, Hawks fans, as the Magic aren?t talking trade for their reserve center, sources say, while anticipating Mo Wagner will leave Orlando in free agency.

That is interesting on Goga Bitadze and Mo Wagner. I liked Bitadze as a backup big men for Boston but Orlando expecting Mo Wagner to leave means they need to keep Bitadze. Not on the market. Bummer.

Mike Vorkunov: Federal prosecutors say Beasley had millions of dollars in gambling losses and Davis loaned him money. Beasley, prosecutors say, worked off that debt as part of this betting scheme. The scheme included 4 games during the 2023-24 season while Beasley was on the Bucks, feds allege

Quote
Mike Vorkunov: Federal prosecutors say Davis and Beasley got close after being teammates on the Timberwolves Davis texted Beasley: "Only way you can beat Vegas is sports betting. Everything else they got the edge" Beasley agreed to manipulate his play during 4 games during 2023-24 season.

Is that Ed Davis? Yup

Quote
Mike Vorkunov: Malik Beasley, a veteran NBA guard, and former lottery pick Ed Davis have been indicted on sports gambling charges by federal prosecutors in the US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York.

Quote
Mike Vorkunov: Beasley is accused of also working with bettors to hit the over on some of his stats. They bet on him to hit the over on rebounds in a March 10 Bucks-Clippers game. He did that in the last few seconds. The group celebrated afterward.
