As I try to ignore the Knicks fans in my life and read/listen about the draft the trade landscape has been an interesting side note to ponder.

First I do not think Stevens splits up JB and JT coming off what was supposed to be a down year while JT got healthy.

I do think there is an outside chance we see White moved in an effort to capitalize on his likely peaked value.

Without claiming any deep understanding of the current CBA I do think the Cs/Stevens will play it smart and target staying under the lux tax for another season. This likely signals smaller moves aimed at maximizing the roster without taking on crazy amounts of money.

Moves I can see happening

Hauser is traded to shave off $$$ and open up minutes for Bayor/Hugo/Walsh.

On " The Game Theory Podcast" it was speculated that Hauser to Detroit for #21 would be about the max draft capital value for Hauser. This opened up the door for me to ponder the following trade scenario.

move #1 Giannis is traded to (insert non-Celtics team)

move #2 Celitics trade #27 to Bucks for Bobby Portis

move #3 Celtics trade Hauser + 40 + 2027 1st to Hornets for #18 (if Hauser alone could net #21 shouldn't Hauser +#40+2027 1st net #18?). This feels like a great spot in the draft to grab a slipping lottery talent.

I don't know that Hauser alone could get #21.  Either DET or CHA would need to have a means to accept Hauser's salary without sending something back.  Neither has a TPE large enough, I don't think.  But if BOS could trade Hauser to DET for pick #21 and a TPE, I would do that in a second.  Or even a future first round pick (which might be more realistic).

I don't think I would trade a proven NBA commodity like Sam Hauser for a draft pick we don't know if he will pan out.

I also think 40 could get us someone of value.

The premise is that if you were able to trade Hauser for #21, you would end up with about $10M more in room under the tax.  You could then have that much more to spend on a free agent to hopefully get a better FA, or you sign another FA.  Right now, BOS can spend say $15M on a FA, trade Hauser and you could spend $20M or more on a FA and still be under the tax.  Plus you have the 21st pick which you could potentially package and move up or otherwise deploy.  Hauser is a useful player but easily replaced.  Scheierman may be able to replace him.

It's a great thought. If you combine it with the use of our TPE, the end of the trade could be:

We lose Hauser
A third team gets Hauser and trades us a 1st
We trade two 1sts to a team like the Rockets for Smith Jr. or the Bucks for Turner.

Trading Hauser and one of 1sts for a stretch 5 difference-maker would be a roster upgrade.

Do you think Hauser is worth a number one pick?

He does not made Bill Simmons top  one trade value list

https://nbarankings.theringer.com/trade-value

AI states
Superstars & Franchise Anchors
: Elite players (e.g., Victor Wembanyama, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Dončić) generally hold untradeable value, but if available, they command 4 to 5 unprotected first-round picks combined with high-value young players
All-Stars & Elite Starters: High-level, proven veterans or young franchise building blocks typically fetch 2 to 3 first-round picks
Solid Starters / High-End Role Players: Players who contribute heavily as starters or sixth men usually demand 1 first-round pick or 2 to 3 second-round pick
Expiring Contracts & Negative Assets: Veterans on expiring deals with no future team plans are usually valued at 1 to 2 second-round picks. Players with massive contracts that underperform may cost a team additional draft compensation (paying a pick to dump their salary)

I would place Sam in the solid starter/ high end role player level but I do not think think he would be a high end level of that.

NBA teams that need shooters according to AI, and I added the Magic as they are needing it.

Denver Nuggets: With Nikola Jokić at center and Jamal Murray at point guard, the Nuggets are actively looking for elite sharpshooters to fill out the starting five.
Indiana Pacers: Despite a strong core featuring Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam, the Pacers are missing an elite three-point shooter to space the floor.
Dallas Mavericks: Needing to complement stars like Kyrie Irving and rookie sensation Cooper Flagg, Dallas lacks sufficient deep threats and relies heavily on outside talent.
Orlando Magic: Desmond provided some but not enough three point scoring.

Denver has  #26; #49
Indiana has no picks
Dallas has  #9; #30 ; #48
Orlando has #46

Which team would you trade Hauser for?    I would want either Denver's picks, or 30 and 48.

I am sure other teams would be interested.   But I do not see getting a high first for him.

Obviously Nico Harrison disagrees.   ;)

I could talk myself into one of those deals but I suspect those wouldn't be made unless Brad has another deal in place to either move up by combining the 2 new picks with the 2 current picks in some combination to move up for someone he has his eye on.  I wouldn't be surprised that if he did something like this that those seconds get traded for more seconds and future seconds to restock the draft capital.
