I have been listening to all the Giannis/Brown chatter and I really don't think anyone out there has any idea of what is really going on or who is in the driver's seat or whatever.

What I think is interesting from a BOS perspective, is that they can play either side of a 3-way trade.  If there is a team that is interested in Brown and willing to offer a package of X, Y, and Z, BOS could potentially just take X, Y, and Z instead of Giannis.  A scenario I have in my mind is that there is at least one 3-way deal on the table but MIL is saying "OK, we will take X, Y, and Z but we also want BOS to add A and B".

This way, BOS can say to MIL, fine, have a nice season with Herro because we are just going to take the X, Y, Z  deal over adding in A and B to get Giannis.  Maybe BOS is offering Brown + C but MIL is trying to drive them up.

That is an interesting take. The baseline here is the Miami deal. So if we think that Jaylen is better than all the pieces being included in the Miami deal, then what you are saying makes total sense. It would require Giannis to add additional 'acceptable' teams to his list for the Celtics to not be in control.

I could see pick #27 from this draft being included just to top it off, but you're right that Boston might not have any incentive to add more. And if the players/picks from other teams are actually legitimately desirable, we could do more than threaten to take that offer

Windhorst is saying his focus is Miami and they are the frontrunners going into this week. Feels odd there's mixed reporting from even the reputable reporters around the league (Stein, Windhorst, Fischer, Amick, etc.). Would love to hear from Himmelsbach or some reliable Celtics reporters soon.

It seems Windhorst is kind of playing both sides right now. He also had this to say:

Boston is also out there because Giannis from what I am told is willing to extend his contract in Boston. I think the Celtics are gonna be very, very cautious with making any firm offer and I would be very careful before saying anything has truly been offered

It honestly sounds to me like Boston is very much in this thing, but they absolutely do not want Jaylen's name leaked in case things going sideways. Either way, happy to see several reports that Giannis is in fact willing to extend in Boston. That means he likes us and there have at least been some actual talks.

Kinda wish Brad or Himmelsbach or someone would just come out and squash this stuff but it's making me think there's real smoke. The Durant stuff to me in 2022, while I'm not saying was entirely made up didn't feel as "smokey" either. It still didn't feel as likely at the time as this one. And the local reporters + team came out just days later to say Jaylen was their guy and basically that the Durant stuff was not true.

I am not sure I get how POR can provide the pieces that MIL would want.  I understand that POR has picks to offer, but what I am seeing is not until 2028.  They don't have a pick in 2026 and I am unclear on their pick in 2027 (it is not coming up on Spotrac Trade Machine).  But maybe POR could offer their 2027 pick plus the 2028 and 2029 MIL picks back to them.  If BOS were to throw in their 2026 pick, that is a nice package of picks.

For the players though, I guess POR could trade Sharpe since they are getting Brown.  Plus dump Grant (which works).  For POR, I see this as one pick so MIL will take on Grant, and then Sharpe and (2) picks for Brown.  It feels like an awkward trade for POR. Seems to work OK for BOS and MIL.  BOS could throw in Hauser and take back Portis also as a variation or this could be an entirely separate deal.

Portland can trade its 2027 pick once the 2026 draft happens, since they do not have a pick this year.  Portland also controls three straight Milwaukee picks from 2028-2030.  If Milwaukee trades Giannis, regaining control of its 1sts for that period is highly valuable.  They also have an Orlando pick in 2028 and our pick in 2029.

Thanks for clarifying on that pick, that make sense.  With POR though, are they a rebuilding team or a win now team?  Trading young players and picks for Brown is what a win now team does, but then they also need to give up a useful vet in Grant.  It seems their future is Advija and Clingan, not really the same time frame as Brown.  And they still have older vets like Holiday and Lillard.

Do they think they can win now with Brown, Holiday, and Lillard (I don't think they can).  And why trade away picks that might yield good cheap young players to put around Advija and Clingan down the road (the OKC and SAS model)?  That is why I say this seems like an awkward trade for POR.

Celtics get Gordon and Giannis
Nuggets get Brown and Hauser
Bucks get Strawther, Gonzalez, Johnson, Braun, the draft rights to the player the Nuggets draft in this years draft, Nuggets 2031 1st, and picks from the Celtics

In a trade like this, they don't get the high-level prospect like Ware, but I think Braun and Johnson on their contracts are better value than Herro's. They could flip those players to other contenders for picks, or keep them for their rebuild. The Celtics and Heat pick packages would be relatively similar value. I like Strawther on a rebuild team and given the opportunity with the ball more.

Celtics play Gordon as a small-ball 5 and play Giannis at the 5 some. Giannis-Gordon-Tatum-White-Pritchard core would be one of the best in the NBA.

Nuggets obviously get Brown to play with Jokic and Murray, with Watson and Hauser at forward. They desperately need vets and depth, but that's a really good starting lineup.

They aren't trading Brown IMO. Brad will try to add some FA's to clean up the role players on this team and improve depth. I still say he falls back to the line of "this team is pretty good when healthy".

Will it be good enough? Depends who they add in FA. Right now, no this roster is not good enough. But I do not expect any big move via a trade and they will just sign some depth pieces via FA.

He will use the regular season (which is totally meaningless now for Boston) to gauge where this team is at come trade deadline.

If the plan is to sign glorified G League players and expect them to be important contributors then nothing changes. And if the plan is to develop young players good luck with Joe jerking their minutes around.

This team has maybe 4 great players and then a bunch of average to mid players. Just not good enough and the fact that Brad sees it and probably stays the course is disappointing.

A healthy Tatum isn't going to change the fact they have no center and they have a black hole on offense and a playoff ghost in Brown. Looks like another year of 50 3s a game!
