Proposed Jaylen Brown Trade Ideas

Mannix calls it "insanity". Jaylen Brown coming off his best season. The Celtics had a disappointing end but are a very good team. Giannis on the other hand has had lots of soft tissue injuries that have ended his season for the last few years.

Mannix believes BOS has the best chance of winning in the Finals over the next few years if they keep Tatum & Jaylen together. Their other problems are fixable.

28.9 pts, 9.8 rebs, 5.4 Assts in a season he was supposed to be hampered by injuries.  Managed a +2.7 when every other regular player was underwater.

These are both very good players.  I don't think it is insane at all.  The only hesitation is durability and both have had some level of issue with this, but Giannis more.

Typically with top 3 picks you know almost immediately if they are going to be good or bust out.  Just how good a little less known (Sarr is a good example of this), but there are very few guys that go top 3 that start off really poorly and then hit (even Brown by year 2 it was obvious he had real talent) or start off really well and then don't get better (Ben Simmons says hi).  It does happen, but it is rare.  For the most part almost immediately you have a real idea on if the guy has it or not when they are top 3 picks.

Being able to determine if a prospect is going to be good and having that prospect actually be good are two different things.  I don't disagree that in many cases, you can see right away if a player has NBA stuff or not, but not always.  But even SGA, teams saw that he was going to be good but it still took several seasons before he was actually that good.  It was 5 seasons with SGA on the team before OKC had a winning season.

It makes no sense to me to trade a bonafide All-NBA level player in his prime for a 19 year old rookie unless you are in full re-build mode.  At best, it will be 3 years, and maybe never, before Dybantsa is better than Brown.  How does that help BOS win a title during Tatum's window?

I was on the NBA subreddit a few days ago and there was a huge thread on the possible Brown/Giannis trade. What I found surprising was that there were a number of Blazers fans who really wanted Brown and sounded more than happy to give up the MIL picks/swaps in 2028, 2029, and 2030 in order to get him.

As we know, the Celtics and Blazers seem to have a good working relationship completing several trades over the last couple of years. And you'd think those picks would be of great interest to MIL as they are likely about to enter a period of rebuilding. So Portland may be a team to keep an eye on in regards to Jaylen since they seem ready to take the next step in competing. It'd also be a nice reunion for Jaylen and Jrue.

SGA is one of the best players of this generation, and he didn't get a team out of first round of the playoffs until his 6th season in the NBA, correct?  Sure, he had injuries, or was that all just part of the tank.  The team clearly did not think they could win with him or they would not have continued to tank for all those seasons.

We are going back and forth on this but I do not believe that Dybantsa will help Tatum win a title over the next 3 seasons more than Brown will.  That is the position that you appear to disagree with.  Brown is a Bonafide all NBA player in his prime.  Dybansta will be a very promising 19 year old rookie.  So if the objective is to put the best team around Tatum, with the best chance to win a title in the next 3 seasons, then you do not trade Brown for a rookie.

Now you have also suggested Brown + #27 for Young + #1 (Dybantsa), that to me is at least worth discussion (even though WAS probably never does it).  Young can help Tatum win now.  Others have said that they would rather have Dybantsa for the next 12 years (or whatever) over Brown for the next 4.  That will probably be the case IF Dybantsa actually fulfills his promise (not a given), but where does that leave the team for the next 3 seasons?  I am guessing that Tatum would rather trade Brown for Giannis or not trade him at all over tading him for a rookie.

Here's an idea. I think the Pelicans are one of the most poorly run franchises in the NBA, but I think they may try to make win-now moves to get back in the playoffs.

Celtics get: Giannis and Murphy

Bucks get: Murray, Poole, their own 2027 1st swap rights back from the Pels, picks from the Cs, and a young prospect from the Pelicans (Missi, Hawkins, or Matkovic)

Pelicans get: Brown, White

Pelicans move forward with a core of White-Brown-Jones-Queen-Zion, with Fears, Bey, Looney off the bench. I think that's a team that can push for the playoffs, and the Pelicans don't have to give up any of the core players to make this trade happen.

Bucks get their own 2027 swap rights back from the Pelicans, which is the big win here. They control their pick in next year's draft. They get picks from the Cs. They also get Murray as a rehab project that could be flipped to a playoff team at the deadline. I'm guessing they would want 1-2 more young prospects (Gonzalez, Fears, Baylor, Hawkins), but I think they get what they want and that does not become a hangup to the deal.

Celtic core is Giannis-Queta-Tatum-Murphy-Pritchard, with Hauser, Hugo, Baylor, Garza off the bench. That teams needs some more vets to fill out the roster, especially a stretch 5 that can defend the rim, but it's an immediate contender.

Interesting! The Blazers probably have to give up Sharpe or Scoot as well. Let's say it's Sharpe, Grant, and picks for Brown. They try to compete next year with Lillard-Holiday-Brown-Advija-Scoot-Clingan. That's a nice team!

I like Jaylen much more than Giannis as a fit on that Portland team. Not wild about the Giannis & Avdija as a duo. I feel those guys play the same way. Not wild about the Giannis & Clingan big man duo as Giannis will force Clingan to spend too much time on the perimeter and restrict his game (as he did to B Lopez). Jaylen won't impede those guys. He will allow them to continue to grow and be their best selves. Giannis won't.

too rich a payment from the C's.  Brown, White and multiple picks for Giannis and Murphy?  take out the picks and it may be worth considering.  Despite White's down season, his defense is still a big deal and Giannis' health issues can't be dismissed and drop his trade value.

I don't see it in terms of a trade directly with POR.  I don't see any of the players that they would be willing to trade as being good enough now.  As a 3-way with MIL, maybe.  Send the POR picks and young players to MIL (they can keep Grant, not so interested), and Giannis to BOS.  Grant may need to be included to make salaries work, I don't know, but I am not interested.  Not what BOS needs.

I guess my post wasn't clear, but the trade was discussed in regards to a 3-way with MIL for Giannis. I would think MIL would be very interested since they are getting control of their 2028, 2029, and 2030 picks back, and they might be able to pry away a young player like Scoot.

Everybody keeps talking about Atlanta as a potential trade partner, but they only really have next year's MIL pick, and even that is the worst of NOP and MIL, so no guarantees it is even that good. The Blazers with Jaylen would be legitimately scary. This would be a great opportunity for them. I feel like everybody gets what they want in this deal.
