First:
Brown
SGA
Wemby
Jokic
Luka
I agree with this ballot. I feel Brown deserves it over Cunningham. I could be biased, I admit, but I think Brown should get it.
If anything, I would bump Cunningham up and bump Wembanyama down. Games and minutes matter. You could argue any combination of these players. But I feel that Brown and Cunningham carried their teams more than Wembanyama did.
none of the advanced metrics support that argument.
I know, and I accept that most will disagree with me on this. But I see Cunningham and Brown as the guys you go to at the end of a game when you need a bucket, or anytime really. The other team knows this and is tilting the defense towards them so they can stop them. Wemby scores off other player's actions, he is not the go to action. Someone penetrates and he gets a lob dunk. Someone sags and he gets a look at a 3.
On defense, he has a big impact when he can kind of roam. He can roam when the other center is not a shooter (like Queta is not a shooter for example). But then put Vucevic out there and you can pull Wembanyama out and diminish his impact some. He still is a big defensive impact in any case. And that impact is important.
They are all top players and I get the argument for any of them. Further, I fully expect Wemby to be first team. I am just not as fully bought in on him as it seems most others are.
