I'm doing a bit of research on Vucevic's next contract.
I'm looking for an older player that is still highly productive, good offensively, and average defensively. There really just aren't a lot of players that fit that bill. Many start getting injuries, but Vooch has stayed healthy. Many have their production fall off a cliff. Maybe Vooch hasn't because he has played for the Bulls, but he has still produced.
I think Brook Lopez's contract is one possibility, as his defense has gone downhill. 2 years, 18ish million with a team option
If we resign him to roughly 10 a year with the new cap, im all for this. The passing and rebounding at his position alone is worth that.
So, Al was wrapping up a roughly 27M per year contract at Vuc's age. I think Vuc is just as productive as Al, but not for 27M per. I think someone is going to hit in the 18M per mark for him.
Those were two very different contracts. Horford signed that roughly 27m a year contract for 4 years with the Sixers at 33. They expected front-loaded production.
Horford also was signed for his defense and ability to fit in as a solid role player.
At 37 he signed a 2 year contract with the Cs for about 10m a year.
Vooch is going into his age 36 season having never played for a real winning basketball team. The record for his teams is 426 wins and 594 losses.
He is, at best, an average defensive center.
I think it's reasonable to that he would sign a two year contract for less than 10m a year for his age 36 and 37 seasons. There is no way he would get more than the MLE. If he wants to sign another big contract with a losing team again, he can, but if he is ready to contribute to winning basketball, he will need to sign for less.
That is, if we even want to sign him.
