Does This Celtics Season Prove Old Argument?

This season proves that Brown is an unselfish player.   He was capable of putting up bigger stats, but was more interested in helping the team.

One of the most successful tandems ever was Jordan and Pippen. Aren't they as similar as Tatum and Brown?

I think what get conflated is if the question is if they are perfect together or and they bad together.  I think it is easy to say that they are not perfect together but that does not mean that they are bad together or that there is some problem  Bad tandems don't win titles.  Brown and Giannis, for example would potentially be a better pairing than Brown and Tatum.  Kind of like Jokic and Murray are a great tandem.  But Brunson and Towns are the same blueprint but not all that successful.

I am perfectly happy with Brown and Tatum.  There are potentially slightly better pairings, but not many.  Brown-Jokic or Tatum-Jokic? Sure.  Tatum and SGA?  Sure.  Are there really that many others?

Jordan and Pippen were collectively much better passers, ball handlers, and took better care of the ball than Brown and Tatum and it isn't close (in addition to just being better players overall).  But yes they weren't necessarily an ideal fit, but given their better passing and ball handling they could make it work very well.  That is similar to Lebron and Wade who had similar fit issues, but also just so much talent.

His assist-to-turnover ratio is the lowest its been in the last 3 seasons. His scoring efficiency is similar though on the increased attempts.

I think to win 2 or more in an era takes a full blown transcendent player like Steph, Kobe, LeBron, Shaq, and you might add Shai etc.. Tatum nor Brown are that.

Days of big dynasties might be over.

IMO, Jordan & Pippen had more defining roles than Tatum & Brown.

Jordan was the pure scorer & secondary defender, Pippen was the ball handling playmaker & lead defender.

I also think the fact that Jordan was the senior of the two helped their dynamic. Jordan was the big brother to Pippen, where as Brown is the big brother, yet plays second fiddle to Tatum.

IMO, Jordan & Pippen had more defining roles than Tatum & Brown.

Jordan was the pure scorer & secondary defender, Pippen was the ball handling playmaker & lead defender.

I also think the fact that Jordan was the senior of the two helped their dynamic. Jordan was the big brother to Pippen, where as Brown is the big brother, yet plays second fiddle to Tatum.

Plus the fact that Michael Jordan was well, Michael Jordan. :-)

You can definitely see the Celtics playing style has changed without Tatum. They play much quicker and Brown is more effective on ball than off.

Brown actually said on a stream a while ago that he was much more capable than his statistics suggests, and he had to make sacrifices for the benefit of the team.

This year's team is obviously still very effective, but they are literally the slowest paced team in the league.

Also, Brown has certainly proven he can remain efficient with more shot attempts, but the advanced statistics and on/off numbers still don't particularly love him. It's great that the team is performing well, but they definitely need a healthy Tatum to be contenders. That was a stupid thing of him to say. Hopefully it doesn't cause any dissention when Tatum returns to his lead role

No one can even come close to Jordan's will to win on our team or his take over games ability.   Ive seen Tatum do it occasionally, when angry, but that extra gear was there all the time on Michael.

Shaq always had a wing man, be it Wade or Kobe.
Kobe was the same be it Gasol or Shaq.
Steph had Thompson and Green
Shai has Holmgreen
LeBron built teams and stacked teams to win titles.  He has also quit on his teams, and although arguably the greatest player of his generation.   He lost a lot of finals, only winning 40% of them.   He is the small forward version of Wilt Chamberlain...
