Celtics: Clingan

Trail Blazers: Queta, Hauser, 2026 Celtics 1st round pick

- - -

After the trade, the Celtics would be out of the luxury tax. Donovan Clingan has more upside than Queta and can spread the floor better.

For Portland, Hauser gives them much needed elite off the ball shooting, and he is locked in long term to a very reasonable salary. Queta is on a much cheaper contract than Clingan, which will help when their other star players get more expensive. The Celtics pick gives the Trail Blazers another shot at a young talent in a deep draft.

I like this trade for the Celts - love Clingans upside.

However, I think POR would say no. I think they view Clingan as too important to their defensive identity moving forward. Perhaps they would consider him more disposable it if they hit on the Yang Hansen pick, but that does not appear to be the case as of right now.

the idea is to add to Q, not trade him.  this trade still leaves us thin at center so it does nothing to solve that problem.  this also trades away a top shooter on the team as well as cost a future draft pick which the C's do not have extras to throw into trades for the hell of it.

The more likely Celtics/Portland trade would be centered around a Hauser or Time Lord trade.

If the Cs decide cutting more $$ is not the goal for this season a Hauser for R Will trade balances out the roster and gives the Cs more versatility out of their center rotation. In a rotation with Queta and Garza the Cs should have no problem limiting Williams minutes to try to keep him healthy for the playoffs.

This is the trade I figured was being referenced by the thread title.  But, I think that Hauser brings more value than Timelord, who can't stay on the court.  This is Timelord's healthiest season in years, and he's still missing 1/3 of his games.

As for Clingan, I don't think the Blazers have any desire at all to move him.

I agree Hauser has more value but with expiring having value again I'm not sure that Portland adds assets to a Hauser/Timelord trade. On the Celtics side Hauser for Timelord and a real 2nd round pick feels fair. Assuming his medicals are not totally a mess.

I ultimately think we see Hauser and the 2026 1st being shopped for a big man at the deadline. Just not alot of options out there for guys who I think the teams have incentive to trade them. Options  Gafford, Issac, Okongwu, S Adams, KO, Timelord, Jalen Smith,  Bitadze, or D Sharpe.

Expiring contracts do not have value at the deadline unless long-term salary reduction is the goal.  There is one value in the offseason because they can be repackaged at the deadline in a deal, but that would not work with TimeLord.

I'm no sure how much of a Market a center who has barely played in 3 years because of injury has.  He's more likely to be bought out then he is to be traded.  There is no way I'm trading Hauser for Timelord without getting picks back.  Both had elite skills but one plays and the other one doesn't.

Hauser for Timelord and Sac 2028 2nd would be interesting especially if given his injury history Timelord can be resigned at a near min contract.

Timelord is better as a free agent acquisition than a trade. Why give up anything of value for an injury prone player that will be available on cheap money in the offseason? Brad will not be clouded by poor short term thinking in this regard. BTW, I love Rwills game and it would be great to have him back.

I don?t think Timelord would cost much at all. I also don?t think trying to win this year is short term thinking.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

It would be great to have Rob back. Would also be great to have KP back. Unfortunately neither can stay healthy.  But I do think Rob is worth some risk and I agree that Q, Garza, and Rob would be interesting - lots of options for Joe once you add JT to the mix. This thinking is contingent on Garza maintaining what we?ve seen the last few weeks. I agree that sending Sam would require some draft capital in return.
