Oooh, wow, that is a scary idea.

Lakers fans asking "would you trade Austin Reaves for Giannis?" ... what is scary about that is that with A Reaves breaking out like he has thus far this season, Reaves might actually now make the Lakers a competitive option in the trade market for Giannis.

Giannis and Luka 1-2 punch for the post-LeBron era. The new Shaq (Giannis) and Kobe (Luka). The new Magic (Luka) and Kareem (Giannis. The new J West (Luka) and Wilt (Giannis).

There is a big difference in the salaries but LA has a couple of spare $10-13mil salaries which you could add to the package to make up the difference. Gabe Vincent, Vanderbilt, Maxi Kleber, and A Reaves. They need one low near minimum salary guy to make the numbers work for Giannis.

A Reaves = 28.4ppg on 50.9% FG 7.7 threes per game at 37% 9.6 FTs per game at 87.4% 6.7apg 5.5rpg 67.3% TS. And his numbers are actually higher than that when he plays with LeBron or Luka.

How many teams will be offering a player than A Reaves? With his improvement this season, that is now a legit offer for Giannis. LAL could actually land Giannis and pair him with Luka for the next 5-8 years!

Could be the modern-day Kareem trade - Brian Winters was sent to Milwaukee where he kept the Bucks afloat for a few years before Moncrief arrived and turned the Bucks into a real title contender (obviously Marques was huge and the Lanier trade made an impact). Reeves definitely won't have a Moncrief coming over with how the Bucks have absolutely zero high draft picks in the coming years though

The problem with this is Austin Reaves has a player option for next year, meaning he'll be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. That significantly reduces his value as a trade piece, especially to a team like the Bucks.

Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis, another former NBA champion, is expected to be a critical trade target of several teams, including many of the East's contenders. The Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors are expected to be suitors for Davis, league sources told ESPN.

The Mavericks are open to exploring the trade markets for Davis, center Daniel Gafford and guards Klay Thompson and D'Angelo Russell, sources said. Davis' agent, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, has met with Mavericks interim co-general managers Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi and requested clarity about whether the franchise wants to extend Davis in the offseason or trade him ahead of the deadline. Finley and Riccardi stated the franchise wants to keep its options open and view how the team plays for the next few weeks. They have not ruled out the possibility of an extension.

There's a solid likelihood that the OKC Thunder may surpass the 73-9 Warriors in regular season wins this season.

They're up by 50 against the 4-seeded (NBA Cup) Suns. Jeezsus.

As a reminder, when the Cs won it all in the 23/24 season they had 3 50pt wins during the season which is an NBA record.  Man those guys were good.

Dereck Lively II will undergo season-ending surgery on his right foot. The surgery will be performed by Dr. James Calder at the Fortius Clinic in London.

Lively is expected to make a full recovery and be available for the start of training camp.

A big loss for Dallas. Lively is probably their best player after AD, Kyrie and maybe Cooper Flagg.

It does smooth out some rotation decisions now. AD move over to center. Gafford as reserve center. Cooper Flagg and PJ Washington at forward with Naji Marshall as reserve. The frontcourt less of a log-jam. Things fit again.

---------------------

I don't know what is wrong with Lively's foot. That release is intentionally vague. It is strange how limit information they are giving people about his injury while telling us he is out for the season.

It is the same foot Lively broke a bone in last year which caused him to miss time. He then had off-season surgery on it. So either the surgery did not fix the problem, it caused another problem, or perhaps it is a totally new injury separate from last year's problem.

Why are they being so vague? It is strange.

Update: The offseason surgery was to remove bone spurs from the foot.

Update: "lingering discomfort" throughout the season in that foot. That is the most information I can find.

Update: A reddit comment said that Nico's medical staff is to blame for this. They misdiagnosed Lively's foot last year and let him play an additional week with a broken bone in his foot. That they believe all these downhill problems are due to that.

They are also talking about Nico trying to foce Luka to return early from a calf strain. That medical malpractice was common during Nico's tenure. ESPN had that article on all the problems in that medical team and how bad they were.

How do you misdiagnose a broken bone?

Another comment said if it was a stress facture it can be hard to see on an X-Ray and you need an MRI to see it. No idea whether it was a stress facture or not but at least that makes some sense.

Are they being vague because they do not want to admit how badly Lively was treated last season? And that his problems now leading him to miss all of this season is due to their poor medical treatment of Lively? It looks that way to me.

Update: Hadn't heard this nickname for Lively before - Sideshow Lob. Good one.
