Ira Winderman: Erik Spoelstra said cutting Precious Achiuwa was ?tough? but spoke of overall roster construction.

There is another guy that could be useful for Boston. A better option. More of a true big. More of a PF/C. A PF who can play C. Preferably a PF but his low skill level means he has to play more as a C.

I'd rather have Achiuwa here than Xavier Tillman.

Achiuwa gives the team a smaller mobile defensive big man. A hustle big. Garza a skilled offensive big. Queta a tall defensive big to protect the rim. Nice contrast in skill-sets.

I don't trust Tillman to fill that role.

Do not need to cut anyone. He could take the 15th roster spot. I would be all for bringing him in.

The only NBA skill Achiuwa has is he is an above average athlete. He is undersized and unskilled. He isn't very good at switching or defending the rim. He isn't a rim runner because he can't catch the ball cleanly. He an okay rebounder.

Not saying we have amazing bigs, but I don't think Achiuwa should get any minutes over Queta, Garza, Tillman, or any of the wings that could play big.

I would agree that Achiuwa has been a bit of a disappointment so far.   I don't know his game well enough to say if he has reached his ceiling or not.  He is 6'-8", 243 lbs, that seems like enough size.  To me the question is if his ceiling is higher than Garza or Tillman or even Walsh or Scheierman.  If so, he might be a nice bench piece to develop for 2026-27.  How does he compare to other buy out options who might become available?

I don't know. He was unplayable last year for the Knicks. The Raptors gave up on him. The Heat preferred multiple "whose that" guys over him. No other team brought him in on a minimum contract.

I don't think he's an NBA player.

OKC fans just gave Steven Adams a standing ovation then proceeded to boo Kevin Durant out of the building. Cold! Hahah

I'll be interested to see how well the jumbo lineup scores for Houston, if they keep it throughout the season.  Looks like little will come easy for that group offensively.  Little penetration, not much speed in transition, no spacing.  Reliant on Thompson taking the next step into stardom, but at the same time not giving him a very good environment to do so.

They take up a lot of space defensively though.  Not a very mobile group but a whole lot of length.

Sheppard is supremely confident and ready to fire at any given moment. Very Pritchard-esque. I like this kid.

Durant looks good. Houston definitely could have used this scoring in recent years

Still think OKC gets a different whistle than everybody else.  Just watching Caruso get a call for dying on a screen, then setting an illegal screen of his own at the other end with no whistle.  Drives me nuts.

Just realized Steven Adams and Kevin Durant both reunited on the same team

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I wouldn't trade our championship for anything, but, man, watching how Sengun has developed and knowing that we could have had him if we didn't trade the draft pick and Kemba for Horford...

Houston has such ridiculously good roster. Sucks for them that they lost Van Vleet, but adding a scoring guard should be pretty easy for them if they desire.

They definitely could have used KD and his scoring ability in the Warriors series last season

Yeah OKC and especially Caruso + SGA get insane whistles. A beautiful, handsy play by Smith on defense to strip the ball from SGA and the ref immediately blows the whistle  ::)

Welp, I see the OKC double standard is here to stay in 25-26.

Durant choked on the FT line.

But man, OKC still getting whistles. Just rename them to the Oklahoma City Chiefs and Shai-Gilgeous Mahomes.

Why bring KD in if you aren?t going to give him the ball at the end of the game. Makes no sense.

Ref #15 was putting his hand on SGA's chest like he had something in for him. Lowkey!! Confirmed rigged whistles tonight!!
