Ira Winderman: Erik Spoelstra said cutting Precious Achiuwa was ?tough? but spoke of overall roster construction.

There is another guy that could be useful for Boston. A better option. More of a true big. More of a PF/C. A PF who can play C. Preferably a PF but his low skill level means he has to play more as a C.

I'd rather have Achiuwa here than Xavier Tillman.

Achiuwa gives the team a smaller mobile defensive big man. A hustle big. Garza a skilled offensive big. Queta a tall defensive big to protect the rim. Nice contrast in skill-sets.

I don't trust Tillman to fill that role.

Do not need to cut anyone. He could take the 15th roster spot. I would be all for bringing him in.

The only NBA skill Achiuwa has is he is an above average athlete. He is undersized and unskilled. He isn't very good at switching or defending the rim. He isn't a rim runner because he can't catch the ball cleanly. He an okay rebounder.

Not saying we have amazing bigs, but I don't think Achiuwa should get any minutes over Queta, Garza, Tillman, or any of the wings that could play big.

I would agree that Achiuwa has been a bit of a disappointment so far.   I don't know his game well enough to say if he has reached his ceiling or not.  He is 6'-8", 243 lbs, that seems like enough size.  To me the question is if his ceiling is higher than Garza or Tillman or even Walsh or Scheierman.  If so, he might be a nice bench piece to develop for 2026-27.  How does he compare to other buy out options who might become available?

I don't know. He was unplayable last year for the Knicks. The Raptors gave up on him. The Heat preferred multiple "whose that" guys over him. No other team brought him in on a minimum contract.

I don't think he's an NBA player.
