Julius Randle and the Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to a three-year contract worth $100 million.

Randle will opt out of his $30.9 million contract for next season in order to sign the new deal with Minnesota. The contract will carry a player option for the 2027-28 season.

Good contract. The way he played in the playoffs showed a player worth a lot more than $33mil. He should be in the $40-50mil bracket.

It is confusing to me how J Randle and Immanuel Quickley are worth the same amount of money. One underpaid, the other overpaid.

Just in: The Utah Jazz are trading Collin Sexton and a 2031 second-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets for Jusuf Nurkic, sources tell ESPN.

What a weird trade.

Apparently I have no idea what anybody is actually worth.  My impression of these two players is that Sexton is a decent guard who is a bit overpaid, but not egregiously so, while Nurkic is nearly unplayable at this point in his career.  Both are on expiring deals.  Yet somehow the added pick is going to Charlotte instead of the other way.

I think this is not a good sign for those hoping for good value from Anfernee Simons.

I like Colin Sexton in the backcourt next to LaMelo Ball. They should work well together.

* Charlotte has no centers now.
* Or power forwards.
* Just PGs, SGs, SFs.

G: C Sexton, Tre Mann, V Micic
G: LaMelo Ball, Josh Green, Nick Smith Jr
F: Brandon Miller, Knueppel, J Okogie, L McNeeley
F: Miles Bridges, G Williams, T Salaun
C: James Nnaji

Okay, they have 1 PF = Grant Williams. I am not counting Salaun. He has no skills. He is not even an NBA caliber player yet. He is rubbish. So is Nnaji.

Edit: I forgot the lotto pick Knueppel.

I think the Collin Sexton trade somewhat reveals what we could expect to get for Simons.

I don't understand what Utah are doing. It is being talked about as a tanking trade. To get rid of a guy who is useful for a guy who is not useful. I don't know about that. It is not like C Sexton was delivering a bunch of wins for Utah.

Why do they even want Nurkic? They have Kessler as starter and Filipkowski as backup center. Are they going to ice out Filipkowski? Or they going to move him to backup PF instead?

... maybe they are planning on trading Kessler and want Nurkic as a stand-in at starting center. Planning on trading Kessler - likely because Ainge doesn't want to pay him next summer.

Would love to steal a big from Utah.

Ace Bailey probably required them to trade Sexton so he could get the ball more haha. But really I have a tough time seeing why they had to include a pick. Sexton is also expiring right?

Yeah, an expiring deal. Their contracts are nearly identical.

OKC trades Dillon Jones to Washington for Colby Jones and then waived the later whose contract was non-guaranteed.  They had to dump someone as they were at 16 players and only 15 roster spots.

OKC also extends Jaylin Williams for 3yr/24M.

That Jaylin Williams contract is a steal. Like Pritchard's deal is a steal. Daylight robbery.

I'd love to have Jaylin Williams here as a long term replacement for Al Horford. Tough physical defensive big man. Love his one-on-one defense at center. Solid team defener as well. Solid mobility for a center. Not as quick as Horford and not as good defensively at PF as Horford as a result. Jaylin can play some PF but not as much as Horford could. Jaylin can shoot the three (39% for his career, 3 years). He can pass the ball well (2.6apg to 0.7 turnovers in only 16.8mpg). Very nice offensive game for a role playing big man. Under-rated well-rounded big man.
I'm surprised he agreed to it.  He'd be a free agent after next season and there should be a lot more teams with cap space.  Maybe the 3rd year is a player option.  OKC will probably lose Hartenstein after next season so Williams would be able to put up bigger numbers to set himself up for free agency.  Of course, there is also a chance that Sorber comes in and is a stud and takes Hartenstein's time instead.
That Jaylin Williams deal is a shocker. Here is a guy who was arguably a key part of their championship run, scores 40 in a Finals game, but is only worth what George Niang is making? I think we are missing something.

You are mixing up Jaylin Williams with Jalen Williams.
Yep.  Jalen Williams will be a restricted free agent after next season and he'll certainly get paid.

Bridges can play PF with Grant. Guess they are really high on Kalkbrenner! Only center on the team.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Sixers extended a qualifying offer to Quentin Grimes but he's looking for 25M/yr.  That's ridiculous.  Padding your stats at the end of a season when your team and a lot of others are tanking should not get you that kind of money.

There's been more smoke around the league for Simons for a long time. Teams like him. Generally, there hasn't been much of an appetite for Sexton (even though I do like him as a player).

Federal authorities are investigating Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley on allegations of gambling related to NBA games and prop bets, sources told ESPN on Sunday.

The allegations are from the 2023-24 season, when Beasley played for the Milwaukee Bucks, sources said. Beasley averaged 11.3 points in 79 games that season, during which he made a career-high 77 starts.

At least one prominent U.S. sportsbook detected unusually heavy betting interest on Beasley's statistics beginning around January 2024, a gambling industry source told ESPN's David Purdum.

Beasley, 28, and the Pistons were in talks on a three-year, $42 million contract to bring the free agent sharpshooter back to Detroit but now talks are on pause, sources said.
