Cavaliers just traded for Lonzo Ball. Looks like Okoro going back to Chicago

Yeah, looks like a Lonzo for Okoro swap
Good move for Cleveland. Ball probably won?t ever be the same, but still should impact winning more than okoro.

I don't understand the appeal for Chicago.

They already have Josh Giddey & Kevin Huerter at SF. Both are better players than Okoro. Okoro is too small to play PF. They have Buzelis and Pat Williams there anyway. They have loads of guards so no minutes there.

Oh and their draft pick - Noa Essengue. Another SF.

----------------------

G: Ayo Dosunma, Tre Jones, Jevon Carter
G: Coby White, K Huerter
F: J Giddey, I Okoro, Noa Essengue
F: M Buzelis, Pat Williams, Jalen Smith
C: N Vucevic, Z Collins

I don't know. I liked Lonzo more on that team. Multiple ball-handlers and creative passers. That was the key to their strong finish last year. Lonzo brought more to the table than Okoro will.

I am surprised that Lonzo didn't bring back more than that?   (I know it is the injury history)...

But if that is the level of player that was needed needed to get him, I would have liked us to take a spin.

I don't understand this for Chicago.  They took on salary for a lesser player.

I think the Bulls had too many guards with Giddey, White, Ball, and Jones. They needed another SF/Wing. I like Lonzo and hate that he went to the Cavs.

PG: Giddey, Jones
SG: White, Huerter
SF: Dosunmu, Okoro
PF: Buzelis, Williams
C: Vucevic, Collins

Should be a decent team.

Weird trade for the Bulls with their roster as is, but I think they make some moves.

Weird trade for the Bulls because Okoro is not good at basketball, and Ball is.

Not only is Ball's contract slightly cheaper but the 2nd year is a team option.
Chicago should have been able to get a 2nd round pick in the deal.

Seems like the Cavs got bigger and better defensively at guard.   Uggg

Yeah and it might mean less (or no) Ty Jerome, which might not be a bad thing either since he was useless in that Pacers series for them

Free agent guard Sam Merrill intends to sign a four-year, $38 million contract to stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers, sources tell ESPN.

Can?t see them re-signing Jerome now.

Ya the Bulls probably should have gotten like a 2nd in addition to Okoro. But Okoro is only about 1 million a year more expensive, and he plays SF which the bulls are pretty think at. He does also have an extra year under contract, but even with that 11 million on the books the Bulls still have just 45 million or so currently on the books for 26-27 against a 169-million-dollar cap so the extra money just really does not matter for them.

Shams Charania: Restricted free agent Davion Mitchell intends to sign a two-year, $24 million deal to return to the Miami Heat, sources tell ESPN. Heat officials and Mitchell?s agent, Josh Beauregard-Bell of Wasserman, negotiated the new fully guaranteed contract. via x.com

Not worth it.

What is he - the 45th best PG in the league? Why are they giving him near MLE money?

I feel much the same about Sam Merrill. Average backup SG. Why pay him $9-10mil per year?

That job (backup SG) should be Max Strus' job with someone else coming in and starting at SF.

Mitchell played well in the postseason. Averaged 15pts/6ast and shot 61% from the field. 50% from 3pt. He?s likely their starting PG next year.

The annual contracts are so inflated now which is why it?s so important to draft well. The Celtics also need to keep Pritchard and Hauser since they are on such team friendly deals.
