Why would we trade for two guys who play the same position as Tatum?

Sub out Eason for Reed Sheppard and add 2027 PHX 1st and id probably do it.

Im still high on Sheppard and I like a lot of the guys who may still be on the board at #10 - most notably Jakucionis.

Also, for those who may not know: The Celtics could waive FVV after the trade, saving a ton of money.

Interesting but I don?t know. FVV, a small PG, is likely on the downswing of his career. Eason is a very solid player. I used to be higher on Smith Jr, but he has stagnated not really improving much after 3 years. I?m not sure if he has it in him to level up more. He would be the X factor if a trade like this is worthwhile in my opinion.

Great trade for Houston. Not so much for Boston.

G: Jrue
G: Jalen Green
F: Jaylen Brown, Dillon Brooks
F: Amen Thompson
C: Sengun, S Adams

That is a strong squad. Probably not a top top team. But a darkhorse contender.

Houstons first option will be going after Giannis. But if Giannis wants to stay in MIL, I could see the Rockets pivoting to Brown as their main target.

That?s a horrendous trade. Might be the worst I?ve seen.  Terrible return for Boston.  :P

To be fair, it was a half baked idea Simmons came up with off the cuff on his podcast.

Surely the Celtics would need more assets back - especially considering the Rockets have a zillion draft picks.

Would do it. Two talented PFs who could help unload JTs assignment. FVV is a very reliable leader and PG. Plus, the 10th pick is projected to be a tall talented Lithuanian PG as per ESPN or a lottery player BS would want to draft.  Experience would not be much compromised as we still have White and PP.

That is a horrific trade tbh. FVV is completely useless for us at this point and we already have the $7M/yr version of him on our team. And then they are giving us the worst of their young players and #10. If we make Jaylen available, he is going to fetch much more than that.

I half joked in the other thread that you could cut $33M in salary by trading Jaylen to the Nets for Cam Johnson and a boatload of 1sts. Nets are dying for a centerpiece star and they have the cap room to eat a big chunk of Jaylen's contract.

I like Houston as an option for Jrue. We could probably still get one of Smith Jr or Eason in a trade since they don't need both of them and they will need to be extended soon.

I do think Houston would be interested in Jaylen, but you gotta aim higher than their B-level prospects. Dream is obviously Amen, but I'd settle for Sengun. Jaylen would have a lot of interest if you shopped him - especially to smaller market teams - since he's signed for 4 more years.

I don't understand, Houston is only sending 1 point guard back?

But seriously, Eason and Smith don't really play the same position at all on offense, and it'd be ideal to have more rangy defenders next to Tatum as he recovers.

This trade really depends on your view of Jabari Smith Jr. If you think he is more Channing Frye, it is a terrible trade. If you think he is becoming Rashard Lewis with all-defensive 1st team upside, this is a good trade.

I think terrible is a little strong here. I would like to do better but put it this way ? if you shopped Brown around the league what is his value taking into account his salary and the new cba? I don?t think it?s a high as people think. He?s not a top 10 player. I said before I would need some better draft capital or I?m not doing it.

That is a much worse trade than the one I proposed, which was Brown for Sheppard, Brooks, Smith, Eason, 10, and 2 future 1st's.  That makes way more sense for Boston and still makes sense for Houston, which would be VanVleet, Green, Brown, Thompson, Sengun with Landale, Holiday, Whitmore and the ability to bring back Adams, Tate, and old friend Jeff Green.  That team easily beats the Warriors about probably beats the Wolves this year.  They need a player like Brown.  He'd be great being back in Udoka's systems as the leader and primary offensive option while surrounded by good passers

Smith and Eason are basically role players at this point.  In the playoffs COMBINED, they played 39.3 mpg and produced just 15 ppg, 8.2 rpg, and 1.3 apg.  They can't be the centerpiece of any trade for anyone good.  They just aren't more than spot starters/quality bench players at this point.  I get they are both young, but Smith is regressing and Eason has never been any good.

Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson

I don't love the idea of White and Vanvleet in the backcourt. The Celtics would suddenly be a lot smaller.
