It seems getting under the 2nd apron and cutting money may be a priority in the off season. Jrue is a very possible trade candidate as we are aware. He is getting older and may not have the value he once did.

I have seen ideas in different threads but thought it my be easier to post any ideas involving Jrue to one thread?

I wonder if he would be a good fit on the T-wolves. If Minnesota doesn't get past OKC but its close, Jrue may move the needle for them somewhat. he could replace Conley's role and would be an improvement there.

Get a 3rd team involved like Nets or Hawks who have trade exceptions and Boston could save quite a bit.

Idea:

Boston out= Jrue + 1st or 2nd round 2025 pick
BOS in= Naz Reid

MIN out= Reid, DiVincenzo and Dillingham
MIN in= Jrue, Clowney

BKN out= Clowney
BKN in = DiVincenzo and Dillingham + 1st or 2nd round 2025 pick

The issue with Minnesota is that their new ownership group has allegedly mandated salary reductions.  But, I agree Jrue would be a great fit there.

Based off of history, the trade package I could see includes either:
1 mid-range first rounder + a role player/prospect
or
High first rounder (there are some interesting historical trades that would compare to this)

This year is a bit unique in the draft, with the top 4 of the top 10 teams having deep playoff run aspirations for next year (Mavs, Spurs, Sixers, Rockets), plus multiple other teams that seem poised to try to take the next step (Hornets, Raptors, Pelicans).

The cleanest iteration of the trade I could see is with Holiday going to one of those teams who want to acquire a guy that could help them to take the leap, with the Celtics receiving their 1st rounder, and the Nets receiving the Celtics 28th pick with the salaries from that team to make the trade work.

This may not get the Celtics all the way under the 2nd apron, especially if they use the injury exception from Tatum's injury, but it would get them close. Plus, it allows them to invest a high pick in young talent, which is something we haven't done since we drafted Tatum.

I think that anybody expecting to end up with a lottery pick is going to be disappointed.

Maybe, but like I said, there's some decent historical comparable trades involving a lottery pick and a player like Holliday. Especially as I mentioned there are so many teams in the lottery this year that are poised for a big jump and could use a player like Holliday.

What historical comps are you referencing, particularly when factoring in age, salary and production?

Age is fairly relative, especially in the modern NBA. Guys are playing longer. Jrue is a coveted player in the league who still has a lot of value.

This article for Jazz fans listed these out about half way down.

If Brad gets this kind of return for Jrue then he needs to start thinking about where in his house hes going to put his second executive of the year trophy.

I wrote this on another thread

Some teams I'd like Jrue on:

(1) NY Knicks. Starting at SG alongside Brunson. Josh Hart or Mitchell Robinson would be the pieces NY would have to try and make it happen.

(2) LA Clippers. Replace Norm Powell. Give them a tough glue guy and ball mover alongside Kawhi & Harden.

(3) Denver. Replace MPJ. Move C Braun to SF. Play Jrue in backcourt alongside Jamal Murray.

(4) Cleveland. Either to replace Garland or to be a 6th man behind Garland and D Mitchell. Maybe replacing D Hunter as 6th man in terms of salary slot. If Garland was traded and Jrue replacing him, it would be part of a larger trade. Not equivalent value.

(5) Minnesota. Replace Mike Conley. I am not sure how they could make the money work. DiVincenzo and Conley? I don't know. Jrue would an awesome fit at PG next to Ant and on their physical defensive minded roster.

(6) Dallas. Replace Klay as starting SG. Give them another steady ball-handler to help run the team. Kyrie and Jrue in the same backcourt would be deadly. Help guide the team with Cooper Flagg, AD and all their bigs up front. Maybe PJ Washington as a trade piece. Or PJ and Klay. Something like that.

(7) Milwaukee for Kuzma. Bucks get a replacement for Lillard while injured. Boston gets a replacement for Tatum while he is injured.

[8] Sacramento could swap DeRozan for Jrue. Jrue is the type of glue guy they need and a PG which they need. DeRozan has never fitted a need for Sacramento. Nor does he fit much of a need for BOS either though.

Others:

Is there a way to make a larger trade for B Beal or P George work? Jrue would be a good fit in both of those places. Not sure they have the pieces to make it work though.

Dumping Jrue Holiday this offseason for picks or severely reduced salary is almost impossible.

Brooklyn is the only team with significant cap room, so the Celtic would have to give up an asset for the Nets to take him.

Players like Kuminga, Randle, John Collins, Myles Turner, Hardaway Jr, Naz Reid & Brook Lopez are all free agents. It is highly unlikely Brooklyn would want to use their max cap space on 35 year old Holiday.

"Almost impossible" might be stretching it.

Jrue for Tobias Harris; Jrue for Norman Powell and Drew Eubanks.

It's easy enough to waive and stretch that salary, saving about $23-$25 million in salary and much much more in tax.

Would Tobias Harris be more useful for Boston next season than Jrue?

A big forward to replace Tatum for the regular season. Replacing a guard like Jrue would likely prove an easier task. D White's size and versatility allows you to sign a 1 or a 2. Pritchard can step up and start if needed. So you can go bench quality guards if you can't land a starter.

Would we be able to keep T Harris and play him next year? Or do we have to waive & stretch him to get below 2nd apron?

Stretching a 3 year max salary would be pretty drastic considering the Celtics would want to be contenders again in 2026-27.

If that was the case the easiest option would be to release & stretch Porzingis and salary dump Hauser.

Neither Harris nor Powell is close to a max salary.

Having an extra $9 million on the books for two future seasons is a much better option than being stuck above the second apron and/or paying repeater tax.
