Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown finished the season with a partially torn right meniscus, sources told ESPN.

Brown had been playing in pain during the last month of the regular season and the playoffs, which concluded with Friday's Game 6 loss to the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

He will be evaluated this week to determine if surgery is needed, sources said.

Fun times.  :-/

This should put an end to the trades being thrown around on this forum. Feel sorry for the guy, it must have been tough playing with the pain during the playoffs.

The fact that he played through it is a good sign because it means it's not a significant tear and one they likely deemed wasn't at significant risk of worsening.

The could mean repair is an option should he need surgery. It's a longer recovery, but it's much better than removing the damaged part.

This begs the question. Why was he playing those regular season games in the first place. Should have been shut down the 2nd it happened. He kept playing culminating in that last reg season Knicks game where it was obvious. Why? Just to get all nba- talk about selfish. We all knew what was going on there. Not good. Why didn?t anyone in the organization step in earlier ? Just cow tail to these guys. Pathetic

They were open from the beginning why Brown was playing. They wanted to see if it was an injury that he could play through or did it require him sitting out or getting surgery. It's not a mystery. For all the mind readers who know that Jaylen is "selfish," tell me why he didn't play the last 2 games? He missed it by 1 or 2 games, right? Your answer has to be logically consistent with him playing the previous few months. If he was selfish, he would have pushed to play 20 minutes in the last 2 games. I just don't get the people on this board, and Celtics fans in general, who seem to hate the players on their own team, especially the ones who show the most heart (IT, Smart, Jaylen). Of course, I live in Ohio not Boston, so that's probably why it's a mystery to me.

Despite living in Ohio, everything you said above is correct.

Our team is a disaster. Why do we let him play with partial tear, thus increasing risk for major issues/surgery on a 300 million dollar contract to boot.

Brown, like Tatum are warriors but we should have made him rest and not risk his future health issues from this.

If this is a repair, we could be looking at 6-9 months before returning to full speed.

Yes, continuing to play basketball with a partially torn meniscus can lead to long-term damage and complications. While some low-grade tears might heal on their own, playing through the pain can worsen the tear, prevent it from healing properly, and increase the risk of developing further problems like arthritis.

Well then it all comes out, JB's knee was worse than we expected.  He probably was playing through a lot of pain trying to not hold us back in our attempt to repeat.  So it was originally a bone bruise right?  Were the C's not completely upfront about the injury, or does a bone bruise = torn meniscus.  I don't think it does.

Well that makes things clearer with what we do moving forward with JB, he is injured and even if we wanted to trade him, we aren't getting a good return.   Get him the surgery if he needs it.  Both JB and JT can recover this whole next season and hopefully both back together in 26-27.

what a crappy situation.   JB is a warrior for trying to gut it out.

If you consider the possibility of JB healed, JT healed, and KP cured of whatever it is, it may be a little hasty to break up a team that a minute ago was a perennial contender.  If Tatum has zero chance of coming back strong next year, I?d be more likely to make bigger moves this offseason.  But if he, Jaylen and KP can be in top form next April, why would you break it up?
That said, hiring a new coach who doesn?t rely on the three might be the way to go.

Not a surprise.

Fair dues to Jaylen for trying to play through that and give the team a chance at repeating.

This is why I think there?s a strong case to tank next year. Shut down JB for most of the season. Tatum might come back in and out of the lineup in the last month of the season when it?s meaningless (more about reps in game speed). Putting all emotion aside, everyone outside of the Jays should be tradeable. Ideally we can keep White too.

But losing Jrue, KP, Hauser, Horford, Kornet and Pritchard for lesser versions should be something we should all be prepared for. The question becomes: how do you build around 2 wings in 2026-2027?

It is only a mensicus injury. That is 6-8 weeks recovery normally. He'll be back healthy midway through the summer.
