Thought it was a bone bruise?  ???

That's what I said earlier in the thread too. How did it morph from a bone bruise to a meniscus?

I hate to tell you guys this, but sometimes teams aren't entirely truthful.

Also, smoking isn't really good for you and burning fossil fuels damages the environment.

I kid, but teams are always hiding stuff.  We're not far away from NBA teams just listing "lower body injury" like NHL teams do.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

The best thing about this from a front office point of view is that a partially torn meniscus shouldn't be something that impacts his production or explosiveness long term. I know Lonzo and Timelord have had a lot of problems with meniscus tears but I think those were full tears. This shouldn't be something that impacts what they JB can do on the court, or his value in trade off of it.

For the record, I had a meniscus tear about 10 years ago. Since I'm not a professional athlete it was recommended I just let it heal naturally. I did so and after about a year I was good to go. The only time I notice it these days is after a couple of hours skiing it tends to throb a bit, that's about it.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

It is pretty standard for the team not to fully disclose how bad the injury is if the player is still playing.

Why would you give the opposition a reason to target him?

My first thought was yeah, this explains a lot. Brown has not looked right since the last month or so of the regular season.  I don't knock the team on this. I don't believe they would take any unnecessary risk with him.  This seems like something that can be fixed.

I expected this was the other shoe to drop.

I figured this was the issue from the go and surgery would have to happen. He had zero lift.

Terrible news for all the posters last night that kept wanting to say that this entire issue has been us ?choking?, when in reality 80% of our starting lineup was dealing with significant injuries/ailments that they were playing through. There?s a reason we go from complete domination of the Knicks all season long to what we saw this series. Sure, we could?ve played better, but the only reason it was ever even close was due to us being hampered by the injuries.

Makes taking a bigger step back next year and resetting financially more of a realistic scenario now. AJ Dybantsa would look good in green, and I think he even said JT was his favorite player.

Are you making excuses for losing to the Knicks and blowing games where we had a double digit lead 3 times when Jayson was still playing and losing by 40 when he wasn?t? Credit to Jaylen for playing through this in hopes of repeating, smart or not that shows a lot of guts but cmon man. Yes injuries were a factor, and they are every single year. We got beat, and beaten badly fair and square

I am not concerned that this ends up being a long term problem, like with Robert Williams.  I have no way to know of course, it just seems like when RWill's knee was sore, he could hardly get up and down the court.  With Brown, you could see he was laboring, it was clear he did not have his full athleticism, but in general, he could still play at a pretty high level.  This feels like something they can fix, that will heal.  And that Brown will be back to normal.

With this talk of trading Brown to DAL or SAN for current and future picks, you have to wonder how this impacts those potential discussions.  Even without this injury, I feel like there is only a small chance they trade Brown this offseason, but there is a chance.  If they can trade Brown for a package including Flagg, I am OK with that.  It is a risk, but I am emotionally prepared for big changes.  I would not be so excited to trade Brown for Harper and whatever.  This is not based on rigorous evaluation, more just gut feel.

To add to this discussion, based on the casual reading that I have done on this, it sounds like recovery times vary widely, depending on what procedure is performed to repair the tear.  You can have a partial or full meniscectomy (meaning some or all of the damaged meniscus is removed) or the meniscus can be repaired by stitching it back together.  The former has recovery times indicated to be in the several weeks range, the latter indicated 6-9 months.

I can only assume that the tear was not all that bad if he was able to play on it these last few months.  It may be one of those things where they don't know until they get inside his knee.  6-9 months seems like an absolute worst case and then of course no way he is included in any trades.  Not sure how likely that extreme case is.  Sounds like they are not even sure any surgery is needed at this point.

I went down the rabbit hole of NBA guys who didn't heal well after meniscus injuries.  Avoid that; it's not a fun read.

Mostly the outcomes are fine, but not always.

I had a meniscus tear myself at 48 years old and the recovery was routine and short.
I will say that during my wait on insurance to approve the surgery, the pain was significant.

Good Lord, how disingenuous can you be ?

You have been as critical of this team as anyone on here.
I will say I have agreed with most all of your comments, especially about Mazzulla.
You may not have called them chokers, which I would not either, but don't act like you were nothing but positive about the players throughout this debacle.
