Does a buyout and stretch have to occur before the season starts?

Yes.  I believe it's by September 1, but I could be making that up.

Waiving Porzingis isn't a bad idea in the same sort of vein.  In an ideal world, Porzingis would get healthy again and would re-sign on a team-friendly deal, allowing us to stay under the second apron next season.  But, there's no guarantee that what he's got will get better.

Jrue Holiday to Dallas for Gafford(expiring $14.4M), Washington (expiring $14.15M) and Olivier Maxence.

Kyrie, Jrue, Flagg, AD and Lively would be a very solid starting lineup. Have Martin, Christie, Exum, Hardy, Marshall, Powell, Jones off the bench.

Makes sense for both teams.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

But it does nothing about the crushing tax and the second apron penalties.

It?s likely going to be a two year process to get under the apron, right? Thus the expiring contracts.

The purpose of this thread was to discuss ways to get below the second apron this coming season.  Ownership probably doesn't want to have a $500 million-ish payroll in a bridge year.
