It's about time a proper conversation started around the league about drastically cutting the schedule down from 82 games. Players will lose money, but will have long-term benefits from avoiding potential injuries.

Wonder if Tatum opted for the SpeedBridge surgery like Aaron Rodgers did.

The Achilles SpeedBridge surgery is a procedure that uses an innovative soft-tissue fixation device to treat Achilles tendon injuries, particularly insertional tendinopathy and ruptures. It involves using sutures and anchors to create a bridge-like structure that reinforces the repair, allowing for potential quicker return to activity.

Patients can often be in a boot with full weight-bearing within a few weeks. A return to sports-specific activities is generally expected around 4 months. Full recovery and return to unrestricted activity can take 6+ months, with a full year being a more realistic expectation.

If anything, it'll push teams further into load management.

It's hard to ignore just how little time off Jayson's gotten since he was drafted. I appreciate how much he loves the game and wants to play, but he's taken on a ton of wear and tear.

Assuming he sits all of next year, that gives him about 17 months to be ready for opening night of the 2026-27 season.

And in the meantime, Boston is nothing more than an also-ran. Sucks to be a Celtics fan right now.

It is, but the good news is we will still have a base of Tatum / Brown / White to build around.  That's better than most teams, even though we're looking at a lost season.

But with Tatum out for a long time, then likely rusty for a while after he returns, it's just a Brown / White base, which IMO isn't nearly enough for title contention.

It also stinks that because of Tatum's injury, the Celtics are pretty much guaranteed to have no real shot at a title the next two seasons, which, honestly, makes me want to just forget about basketball for a couple years.

To think, it took 11 years to get from the Nets trade to the title last year, and that might very well be the only title the Cs get in the present era. Why spend a decade-plus planning and building and developing young players to get only one title out of it? Just to have it all shot down because of an injury or two? I'd rather the team just go try to buy a couple titles with rentals.

And I know that I'm being pessimistic. I tend to be that way with sports, and the Tatum injury + Boston's crappy play this round have only exacerbated that. But I really am not looking forward to the next couple of seasons.

I thought this core would have a 3-4 year window for championships.  Tatum, Brown, White + others.  An aging Jrue could be moved for pieces.  KP too, despite his limited availability.  We have the core.  Now all of it is in doubt.

Really deflating.  Makes me more thankful for 2024.  It shows you really how difficult it is to win a championship.  One injury and it's over.

Get well soon Tatum.

It?s over for this core but not for Tatum. Celtics have one the best GM?s in basketball. As long as the new ownership doesn?t stand in the way I have faith that Brad can make the moves to surround Tatum from his years of 29-33. I was hoping they would win won more with this core but that?s life. I will always enjoy the 24 championship something these turd Knicks fans don?t know about.

Reading this article, I didn?t realize at 34 Kobe who ruptured his Achilles in the 2013 playoffs came back in December?? Is that correct? I would think the surgery has evolved from 12 years ago a little and Tatum is younger. Who knows, maybe he returns in January or February? Who knows. For any Celtics fans who haven?t appreciated Tatum will certainly do so now.

Repeating is hard.  Even without the injury it wasn?t looking very promising as two other starters weren?t very healthy. Looking at OKC, Denver, Cavs, and Indy it didn?t seem likely we?d have beaten any of them.

Now Brad sees what he?s up against - who he?s got to beat over the next few years.  I realize with cap issues it?s a challenge but in some ways he can operate with a blank slate given nothing would be off the table.  Make moves knowing you?ve got Tatum returning. 2026-27 should be fun.

This is why we should have beaten GSW a few years ago, these chances don't come around all the time.

I literally have no idea what is going to happen going forward. Tatum is done for until 2026-27.

Do the Cs just ride it out and try to be a playoff team? Do they play for a lottery pick? Do they move Brown?

Yeah, they probably dismantle the team now...
