Of note, Marc Spears talked with Justin Tatum (JT?s dad), who gave a brief interview and made mention of ?8-9 months? as an expectation when he?d be back. So that must be the timeframe the medical team gave them - perhaps as a ?all goes well?/best case scenario situation.

Start of February is a little over 8.5 months from now. So if there?s no setbacks, then an All Star Break return is a reasonable goal.

If that?s legitimately the expectation, that does change the expectations for next year somewhat. We?ll still be trading off one of the pieces to get under the second apron, but not necessary to do a complete cutdown of the roster with that timeframe, even recognizing that JT likely will still be working his way back the entire 25/26 season.

If he did go with the SpeedBridge procedure, then it's a 6-9 month recovery rather than 9-12 months. We obviously don't want to rush him back, but if he's cleared to play, then I don't know why we don't ease him in at the end of the year.

Running Back Cam Akers came back less than 6 months after he ruptured his achilles. He was also young when he did it.

Yeah like I knew "most" of the next season was lost but I didn't understand these posts saying Tatum was officially out until Fall 2026. The Durant example also is flawed, he suffered it in mid-June 2019 in Game 5 of the Finals, and was actually cleared to play late March 2020 (approx. 9 months). But the thing is, COVID came into play and also that Nets team was bad that year so there was no need for him to play. Kind of like Aaron Rodgers and the Jets, he could have come back late in the year but it didn't matter because the Jets weren't a playoff team by then and were out.

It'd be awesome if Tatum could come back March and beyond for a potential playoff run. The East is also so bad (especially the bottom) that the C's at minimum should still be a play-in team, or probably even a 5-6 seed.

The thing is, none of us will really know until he gets to the point where he starts to rehab and see how his body responds...some people respond really well, others have complications. Think about how long Lonzo Ball was out for a meniscus. OTOH Kobe did come back quicker, but his production suffered after his return...but it could also have been because he was 36 when had the injury and was losing his explosiveness due to age anyway. We will just have to wait and see. The positive is the surgery was done quickly and there were no complications from the procedure itself.

But Tatum's a good player, and a smart player, he will figure out how to adjust if he has to. His career is far from over.

Just remember, old friend Nate Archibald tore the Achilles tendon on both legs and came back to win a championship with the Celtics.

It's sad to hear that Tatum will likely be missing most of the year. He was at his peak and now he has to recovery and rehab this serious injury.

Does this make Jaylen Brown untouchable for next year? (Unless we can somehow get Giannis in return). JB would be our #1 option on offense given Tatum's loss.
