I?d guess a REAL evaluation of Browns knee , Jrue health ,  KP illness , etc  has to be looked at over next several months .   Can they faithfully still play at a high level next year , or are they on the ragged edge on a step drop off because of irreversible heath issues .

I ve become dubious of players staying relevant after certain injuries because of players like IT and Kemba .

I?m more worried about the three I listed than JT actually .  If KD can come back , I think JT can still play one day too.  AGE and Knees scare me most.

This is devastating for Tatum, the team, and the fans. Worst possible scenario. Let's all hope he has a speedy and successful recovery.

Brad has a much different job ahead of him this summer. I kind-of hope we just blow it up entirely outside of Tatum, White, and Pritchard. Get under the 2nd apron, or even the tax, and regroup for another run. It's been a glorious 9 years (including the IT/Al 2017 team). Tatum will only be 28 when he comes back. It doesn't have to be over

With the current team Celtics are a 6th-7th seed at best cause of Al & Holiday age plus Porzingus can?t be counted on cause of injuries history
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

I literally have no idea what is going to happen going forward. Tatum is done for until 2026-27.

Do the Cs just ride it out and try to be a playoff team? Do they play for a lottery pick? Do they move Brown?

Blow it up.  Get under the cap.  Trade KP and Jrue and Hauser.  Keep JB and DWhite.  Let JB show what he's capable of as the franchise player. Try to trade up in the draft and get an impact player.  Develop all picks and young players next year and hope Tatum is 100% for the 26/27 season.

Even without JT they are a top 5 team in the East next season.

Nobody wants KP. They are stuck with him one more year.

Orlando, Knicks (tho the cap reaper is coming for them), pacers and maybe the Cavs (but I think the Cavs move Garland and Allen) better. Pistons right there also.

It is going to be hard to bottom out in this East.

I am concerned now about JB's knee. Would not surprise me if he has to have surgery.

It is what we all expected, totally sucks for Tatum. But, unfortunately it is part of Pro Sports. He IS expected to make a full recovery.

Least Tatum is younger, hopefully he?s only out a year.

The Wall Street Journal reports on Kevin Durant's recovery and comeback to the NBA following an Achilles tear in 2019 according to HSS foot and ankle surgeon Martin J. O'Malley, MD, who performed Durant's repair surgery, as well as his rehab team.

It takes basketball players with Achilles ruptures about 10 months to return. A rehab of 10 months would have normally coincided with the 2020 playoffs. Waiting for this season would have given him 16 months in a normal year, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Durant decided not to join the Nets in the NBA bubble last summer. It was 18 months before he played again.

Dr. O'Malley said Durant can be a model for athletes with this ruinous injury in the future. At two years, he noted, they should approach a full recovery.

Ugh. We all expected it, but still sucks to see it formally reported.

I expect a significant overhaul this summer, up to even trading Brown if the price is right. Just not sure how compatible they are together at those salaries.

With several ?win-now? teams in the top three of the draft, may be some opportunity there for us. Atlanta also is a possibility.

I agree.

I think Tatum isn't fully recovered until sometime the season after next, and there's a good chance, IMO, that he's never the player he was before.

Given Tatum's situation, I think the Cs should sell off everything they can. With Al and Jrue being older and KP missing half the time, that really leaves just Brown, White, and Pritchard as good, dependable players. And that's not nearly enough to contend for a title. Someone upthread said they'd still be a top-5 team in the East, but I'm not interested in Boston being an also-ran, treadmill sort of team (never great, never terrible).

It took from the 2013 Nets trade until last season (11 years) for the latest rebuild to lead to a title. With no chance at title contention this year or next, might as well start on the next rebuild now.

Assuming he sits all of next year, that gives him about 17 months to be ready for opening night of the 2026-27 season.

I don't know if you can trade Brown until you have an idea of how Jayson recovers. I'm expecting him to go hard at his rehab because he's prove he has the work ethic, but it's still an Achilles rupture. Even if everything goes right and the surgery is perfect, there aren't any post-surgical setbacks like infection or dehiscence, there's a chance that he's not the player he was.

I don't envy Brad right now.

And in the meantime, Boston is nothing more than an also-ran. Sucks to be a Celtics fan right now.

It is, but the good news is we will still have a base of Tatum / Brown / White to build around.  That's better than most teams, even though we're looking at a lost season.
