Not to make it about me, but I like how Larry is always just a little older.
The Bird era was so good. One story - when Bird was in his 20?s, about a year or two older than me and my friends, we?d occasionally have sightings. He went to bars we went to and he lived on a fairly main road in Newton/Brookline that we often drove down. One night very very late my friends (I wasn?t with them) saw a light on in his garage and saw him tinkering with his car - garage door open. Jerks and drunk as they were, my buddies thought it was a good idea to stop and introduce themselves. Walked right up to the garage and said they just wanted to say hello and shake your hand. Larry, understandably was not accommodating and appeared to be nervous. The visit was short and pretty silent on his part. Not sure if they regret it or are proud of it now. I thought it not a wise or nice thing to do but can say at the time they were pretty pleased with themselves.
