So?what were people?s thoughts on Peterson?s first real debut w the Big Club vs the Cavs? He played a lot of minutes. Joe still figuring out the skill sets of his deep bench.

Personally, I felt like he didn?t do anything fantastic but he also didn?t do anything too horrible. Hit a couple 3s, but only shot 30%. Had some rebounds, a steal and a TO. Not a sieve on defense, competes, but he had a bunch of fouls.

I liked him getting some burn and expect him to play tonite vs Miami with Al and Zingis out, but think I see more value and talent in Walsh.

He exceeded my expectations.  As you say, he competed and I thought did fairly well on the defensive end.  He has a funny looking 'palm' shot, but he's supposed to be a shooter.

In terms of comparing him to Walsh, he might have less talent but if he can shoot then he fits more of a role on this team and potentially more of a niche in the NBA in general than Walsh (who in my book is still a project).

I loved it. Love that Joe put together some alternate lineups and kept with them. Btw, I thought Luke had really good minutes last night.  Peterson wasn?t great but hit a three (was it 2 threes?) and worked defensively - forced a nice offensive foul (Mitchell??).  But I love that he got pt and had a chance to make mistakes and not get immediate hook.  If any deep bench guys are needed down the line they will be better off having played some meaningful minutes along the way.

I liked Drew out of college. He's like a 6'9" inch guard. He has worked his ass off in Maine. He's an all around skilled roll player .  Still only 25. He should keep getting better. He's only a year older than Scheirerman.

His positioning on defense was horrible.  He hustled, but that was because he was normally scrambling to get to his spot.

He has confidence, but I would have rather had a better defender in there.

While I didn't look at his game too deeply, that is imminently fixable.  He actually moved his feet pretty well (or well enough) when guarding some of the most difficult guys to guard in the whole league.  I recall Sam also having initial struggles on defense while he was still adjusting to being on the floor.

Give me the guy that can shoot rather than the defensive guy that is always left open (like Walsh is anytime he's on the floor).

I thought he did ok, given his limitations. Definitely made some hustle plays. He wasn't another Hauser, but I wasn't expecting him to be. Though he did shoot 2-5 from 3 and pulled down 7 rebounds with no turnovers in 26 min, not a bad stat line for a deep bench guy. I guess if they wanted a better defender they have their walking trade chip, Jaden Springer  :angel:

 Well, Peterson seems to have more trust from the coaching staff. He played the most (and produced the most) of all the deep bench guys. But that may be positional need with Al and KP out, Tillmans butt being filled w led and Queta collecting fouls like candy.

He does fill that back-up shooting PF role that has been the hardest to fill on this roster for several seasons now. Healthier than Galinari, better defender but worse shooter than Muscala.

Hope he continues to get meaningful to keep getting up to NBA speed, his processing wasn?t great. But he was active and fearless (unlike Walsh who seems to still freeze up).

I assumed his thin frame would be a detriment, but I think it actually helps him in terms of his movement around the court and his defense. I was actually a little mad we wasted a two-way spot on him, assuming there was no path to minutes on the Celtics, but I'm willing to admit I'm wrong.

To Joe, there is no more important skill than shooting. With Walsh, Springer, Tillman, and Scheierman unable to consistently knock down a jumper, it is interesting that Joe went to Peterson for some actual run.

I am not blown away or anything, but I trust him over the four guys I just listed above. Not that those guys can't come around, but I think it's fair to say that all have been at least somewhat of a disappointment up to this point. Brad's recent deadline deals where he's given away 5 2nds total (Muscala, Tillman, and Springer) haven't been wonderful, but they're just 2nds and I understand taking a swing.

He has work to do but his length helps him get back into plays and he has a nose for the ball... Definitely better guarding on the ball...
