The 20 minute break just killed all the energy. Nobody is playing any defense now.

And good Lord Curry stop showboating and take care of the ball.

lol went right back to the awful product haha

What an awful production this has been. Just go back to the normal East/West dynamic and stop trying to ?fix? it.

Steph obviously wants to get MVP in his home arena. But that long break killed whatever ounce of seriousness this game had.

They'll give the MVP trophy to Curry in his backyard but Tatum showed out in game 2.  Both the Jays had their moments, so that was pretty cool.

Now go rest up, lol.

JT is gonna be public enemy #1 in Oracle if he wins the MVP.

Fun to see JT and JB at the all star game.  No injuries, better game until the giant break in the middle of the final (that was horrible)

I thought so too. The rising stars put up a decent fight as well. Players were actually sweating in an ASG.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I don't see any reason why Luka would leave the Lakers. Luka + the city of LA + Lakers mystique will make the Lakers the #1 free agent / trade destination in the league. Luka can easily get running mates to come in and join him in LA after LeBron leaves.

The reason would be he doesn?t like the city or culture of LA, which many people have speculated as possible he has a similar personality to Jokic in a lot of ways. It?s also
Not he like can get a super max there either. Maybe you love LA but a lot of people don?t like it at all.

I haven't seen that speculation about Luka not liking LA.

I have seen lots of speculation that Luka might like LA too much. The party scene. The good times. And that his conditioning / professionalism may worsen in LA.

Luka has already said how happy he is to be living near the sea.
Also, people underestimate is just how often these guys are away from home. If you're an NBA player and really don't click with a city you don't need to spend much time there.

I gotta disagree with you both here. In the past week alone we saw Beal refuse to waive his no trade clause because he refused to move his family again, Daniel theis turn down multiple nba offers cause he preferred living in Europe and doncic himself express being heartbroken and mentioning he had just bought a house.that all aside Brian windhorst himself said that Luka was Bo guarantee to resign with the lakers. I?m also a little baffled that Boston fans would say players don?t care where they play given the constant complaining we have all done about players signing in warm weather cities like la, Miami for decades. Feels like not being very objective here
It's certainly possible that he doesn't like LA - I'm just pointing out that you don't have to love the city you work in to stay there, especially if you have the money to leave frequently.

Just caught up on All Star Weekend, seems like a shambles. The dunk contest in particular continues to slide into irrelevance. Killed by youtube.

I hate the ASG. I watched about 30 seconds, enough to see JT hit a couple of shots. A complete waste of time.

Watching the Spurs team try to cheat on the skills competition was embarrassing. I didn?t even bother keep it on long enough to see the outcome of that.

Victor Wembanyama on All-Star: 'It's possible to give a hundred percent on that court to play hard, to play your ass off'

Tom Osborn: Wemby stayed true to himself in giving maximum effort tonight: My biggest takeaway is that it?s possible to give a hundred percent on that court to play hard, to play your ass off. And, for me, it?s the only way to play basketball and I think it?ll only make the game better.  via Bluesky

If their going to play hard then just go back to East vs West instead of the farce of a tournament it was only competitive ina way that you might find at a pickup game where it?s ?winner stays on the court?.

They may have been playing slightly harder but there was zero identity to any of the teas (even with the silly names and the slight nods to different group).  And what the hell were they going to do if the rookies won?  Have half of the best guys miss playing in a third of the action and let non all stars on center stage for an all star game?

The dichotomy between NBA ASG weekend and the NHL's 4 Nations Cup over the weekend was glaring.

Hockey, you had USA-Canada which ended up being one of the most politically charged & tension filled sporting events in years and then you had the NBA flubbing its way thru All Star Saturday night and whatever that product was called last night.

Not a good weekend for the NBA.

I can't believe anyone would watch the NBA All-Star weekend when it was going against SNL 50. Saturday night on Peacock, there was a concert, where past SNL artist performed. Then last night, they had the 50th anniversary show.

A poster on RealGM had a great backdown on how much time was basketball vs not basketball.

Quote
42 minutes of actual basketball was played in the 3 hour All-Star game. Twice as much (80 min) was ad time.

Minutes Break-Down:

* Intro (with ads): 30 min
* Pre-Game Talk: 10 min
* Game 1 (Kenny vs Chuck): 12 min total (10:07 of actual game time)
* Mr. Beast Challenge: 5 min
* Game 2 (Shaq vs Rising Stars): 16 min total (12:54 of actual game time)
* Music Performance: 6 min
* Inside the NBA Tribute: 9 min
* Game 3 (Chuck vs Shaq): 14 min total (10:40 of actual game time)
* Post-Game: 6 min

Totals:

* Analyst Desk/Game Intros/Segments (total): 22 min
* Ads (total): 80 min

I had the same feeling watching Game 1. It was the only game I watched. Lots of boring build up. Did not start when it said it would start. Lots of ad time. Then finishes.

In an ASG where no-one was playing any defense, first to 40 means roughly 1 quarter of basketball. And that was what we got.

Twice as much ad time as basketball action is ridiculous.

I can't believe anyone would watch the NBA All-Star weekend regardless of what else was going on. ;D
