Good defensive performance.  And as a fan of SEC football for decades, a good RB inexorably icing the game with powerful runs late in the fourth is one of my favorite things.

The good news is that the Pats won.

The bad news is that it looks like I may have lit my money on fire with those Bungles futures bets.

Have to give RKK credit here. The Mayo and AVP hires look to be good moves.

The team played hard, and looked well-organized in all phases. Good for Mayo and Brissett. Jakobi was tremendous at sensing and evading pressure today.

The downside is that this is not sustainable given our poor offensive talent. There is inevitably going to be some letdown. I hope Mayo is able to hold that locker room when things get bad. This rebuild will take time.

They won't win many games scoring only 16, and they did get a little lucky like when the CIN player (forgot his name) fumbled at the 1-yard line.

That said, the team played hard today and actually looked well-coached and prepared, which if we're being honest was not the case over the last two years even with Belichick.

I don't think this team has had a win like today in a while, where they went on the road against a contending team with a stud QB (Burrow) and pulled off a win. I guess last year's home win against Buffalo and Josh Allen was the last time. But overall not many in the last two seasons.

They'll be tested next week when the Seahawks come to town.

Followed by two heavyweights at the Jets and at San Francisco. Is it too early to dream 4-0? 😂

Safe to say they were onto Cincinnati

Anyone surprised at how good the defense looked? They were dominant.

Fun game. Pleasantly surprised. I think the patriots played better than I thought and the Bengals played worse than I expected. Nice way to start the season though.

The offensive line looked way better than I expected although they had some miscommunication along the way. Offensively things were still pretty simple. It worked against Cincinnati but they have some work to do if they want to keep this going.

Was never really concerned about the defense.  It's been a solid unit for years when healthy and even with the loss of Judon, I still expect them to keep the Pats in a lot of games. I said it last year but Gonzalez has future all-pro written all over him.  The kid is a stud.

My concern is the offense. It's lacking but they're also still very much in a a rebuild.

The tackling yesterday was excellent. They really shutdown Cinci - though the back to back near touchdowns near the end of the half were key to the win. Great to get a win to start the year.  Expectations really haven?t changed though.

I thought there might be somewhat of a drop off without Bill. Obviously it?s only one game, but they looked really good on that end.

I was not surprised by the defense.  I was expecting the under for the game (o/u 40.5).  I think pretty much everyone expected it to be good.  I was surprised by how the CIN offense played, in particular the turnovers.  It goes down as we held CIN to 10 points, but they were moving the ball at times, after a  slow start.  Their turnovers took away points.  But the Pats defense is good.

The biggest thing is, Mac and Zappe last year were full on arsonists. The poor pick-6s, not throwing it to open guys and making poor decisions. Brissett yesterday wasn't flashy but he didn't turn the ball over once, and for the most part I thought he actually made some good throws on some crucial 3rd downs. He took what the defense gave him even on the short throws to move the chains and eat up clock. And he scrambled a few times to pick up first downs. Mac or Zappe were too slow.

What surprised me more was our O-Line. Sure, Brissett got hit a few times BUT I believe the O-Line only had two penalties, and once Lowe came in for Okorafor he actually stabilized LT. The O-Line also got some good push and led to Stevenson having some nice runs. Got to give the unit props.
