How about if future USA Olympic teams are selected from lottery teams only - at least when the games fall in Northern hemisphere summer.  Lottery team players can get started in April and be a real team by the time the games begin. Additionally, players from Finals teams can avoid the exhaustion and lack of body rejuvenation resulting from going right from the intensity of playoffs to the Olympic Games (and then a month later training camp).  OK it?s a ridiculous idea and leaves out a lot of players who want to participate, but truthfully, I don?t love Tatum, Holiday, White being on the team. Plenty of great American players on lottery teams. I am far more a Celtics fan than a USA Olympic team fan. In fact, sometimes can?t help myself rooting for the underdogs.

honestly i don't hate this idea

The issue is that you're effectively punishing the guys on good teams who want to participate in the Olympics - especially the younger guys and/or guys like Carmelo Anthony (say what you will about his NBA career, but he was a phenomenal Olympic asset).

And wouldn?t you have to implement this for all Olympic teams, not just USA?
Yeah exactly - I'm sure Serbia isn't frothing at the bit to lose their only world-class player.

The problems with amateurism are various and sundry, but while I do think there could be something to balance the fact that we have such a concentration of top-level talent in one region (this doesn't just hit basketball, of course), I'm just not sure gatekeeping participation in the Olympics from the world's top athletes is the best way to do about it.

I think keeping it the way it is is more fun but an alternative is the soccer model, where it?s 23 under team with the exception of 3 players. You can have teams full of young potential and still bring a few of your best international players.
Yeah that could be a good solution, especially now that most of the players who are Team USA-level talent spend +1 year outside of the NBA at most. But, for example, a guy like Derrick White would have never had the chance to make Team USA under that rule.

Grant Hill open to selecting Jaylen Brown for 2028 team: 'You can't take anything personal in this role'

Basketball Hall of Famer and Team USA men?s hoops managing director Grant Hill, who Brown criticized after being snubbed, spoke about the matter on All The Smoke?s Open Run with Rachel Nichols. I?m confident he and I will sit down at some point and talk about it and get to some level of understanding, Hill said. Look, he?ll be a candidate if he wants in 2028. Nichols then asked if he would welcome him on the team when the Summer Games move to L.A. Oh yeah, Hill said. One thing I?ve learned. You can?t take anything personal in this role. And so, I haven?t personalized anything. My goal, my objective is to win. As soon as hopefully that happens, we pivot and start looking ahead to the future.  via Bleacher Report

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Watched most of the 4th quarter of Germany/France.  French did everything they could to let Germany back in that game.  Much tighter in the end than it needed to be.

Was impressed with the Dancing Bear.  Looked good out there for France.  Flying around everything and being in the middle of everything.

Good Lord, they are just killing us in that Curry/Embiid PnR. Embiid is such a liability on the perimeter.

Kerr you might want to get an all nba player in the game that can guard multiple guys

Kerr is so overrated as a coach. His rotation decisions are just mind-numbingly bad - very reminiscent of Joe?s first year and being so dogmatic and inflexible. The Embiid stuff is particularly frustrating.

If we weren?t so much more talented than every other team out there, I wonder how many games we would?ve dropped.

You mean the only All-NBA 1st Team player on the roster who is coming off of winning a Title. I know Tatum's confidence is down due to not wanting to screw up when he does actually get minutes, but he better not have ruined his confidence going into the NBA season.

Either way, 14 down is really rough.

The fact that Kerr thinks Tatum can?t play against a bunch of euros is downright disgusting
