JJ McCarthy undergoing surgery for a meniscus.

Hopefully he comes back strong.

Edit: Unknown per league sources if it is a repair of a tear or a trim. His timetable for return is unknown at this point.

Out for the season.

Wow, I guess you can call that a dodged bullet.  This does not sound career threatening.  He will still have plenty of opportunity to be a good QB, but a tough break for him and the Vikings.

This just goes to show that there is and always has been an element of chance in drafting and in particular, in drafting QBs.

Poor Vikings fans ... instead of the hope of a promising rookie, they're stuck with retread Sam Darnold.

There were only 4 across all teams last year, so even if it quadruples that's less than 1 per week. The change in starting field position (whether it's better or worse) will be way more significant
I'm bitter.

I?m not a fan, but it will impact the game as far as field position.

I also haven?t heard of any touchdown returns so far this preseason. Not that I?ve followed every game - have there been any yet? I did a quick search without finding any results. So far it doesn?t seem like it will significantly inflate TD return rates?

I actually like it. It makes the kickoff returns a bit more exciting than the usual "kick it into the endzone" play which feels like 80% of the time now.

Looks like Mac is getting his confidence back. He started yesterday vs the Bucs and went 16-23, threw for 210 yards, 2TD?s, No Ints, passer rating of 127.

I wouldn?t be surprised if he does well in a stable situation with some weapons and a decent O-line.

Ewwww?just realized I described the Bucs as stable vs the current state of the Patriots. My, how times have changed.

Saying someone could be good because of their preseason stats is kind of ridiculous. I mean Dorian Thompson Robinson absolutely tore it up yesterday and pretty sure we know his skill level. I think it is far more telling of how the league views Mac that he could only fetch an extremely meager return and could only get on a team that has a young clear cut star quarterback in front of him. There are numerous teams around the league that took fliers on other qbs to be their potential starter like the Vikings, raiders and broncos. None of those teams wanted to give him a shot for next to nothing.

He's on the Jags, who played against the Bucs.
