Kornet's main job will be to keep Lively or Gafford off the boards.  They don't have a big who can score like Mobely or Turner. Offensively he'll be a pick and roll guy. So you lose a 3 point shooter without Porzingis, which means they'll have 4 guys out there who can make 3's vs 5.

Also keep in mind that he's playing bench minutes. He won't be out there with the game on the line. The only times all season where Kornet has been a liability is vs the top 4's or 5's who are scorers. And earlier in the playoffs he contributed enough offensively to offset whatever defensive problems he had.

Technically still 5 guys who can shoot 3s if you count the current starting 5. But yeah, minus KP off the bench then it's just Hauser and Pritchard in that core 8.

Joe should've used the bench more this year so he could trust them more than I think he does. I would not be afraid to play Q or X some. They are both more athletic than Luke. Q matching up against Lively would be fun to watch. If the 3s are falling in game 3 then it won't matter.

Not the ?Joe should?ve used the bench more? nonsense.  Tillman was acquired at the deadline and arrived hurt, while Q was a 2-way guy who a) was limited in the amount of games he was allowed to play because he was a 2-way, b) makes a ton of rotation mistakes and will get eaten alive by Luka, and c) wasn?t even playoff eligible until the last week of the season.

Luke will get minutes if KP can?t go, and we will win in 4 or 5, just like we would with KP.

You play those guys throughout the season in case they are needed.

How is he supposed to play Tillman ?through the season? when he literally had one healthy month of him?  Or Queta, who again wasn't on the roster for half of the games?  As was he played Queta over half the games he was on the active roster, and gave him over 10 minutes a contest.  He?s seen Queta, and the lack of confidence Joe has in him for the playoffs is because he?s seen Queta, not because he hasn?t.

Ever hear of Gene Guarilia?

"Guarilia was particularly effective in Boston's 1961?62 NBA championship victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. In the final moments of regulation, in the decisive seventh game, he stopped Elgin Baylor. The Celtics went on to win the game in overtime."

No, and I?m not sure what relevance someone who played 60 years ago has today.

Look it up.

He's officially out tonight.

Expected it. Sucks but next man up, and we have experience playing without him this postseason.

Typical Boston injury luck. I think he's gonna miss the rest of the series, regardless of how long it goes.

I will be shocked if we see him again this series.

Having to watch Kornet fumble around and get cooked for the next two or three games will be deflating.

My gut feeling. Porzingis will play limited minutes IF this goes to Game 6 or dare I say, Game 7.

I think most people, and maybe even the C's organization deep down believes the C's can still win 2 of the next 3 and win the Finals in 5 games (or less). But if it gets dicey and goes to a Game 6, maybe they decide to let KP play for limited minutes? Game 6 is more than a week away.

I?m hoping they opted to rest him because we?re up 2-0, and that if Dallas wins tonight we?ll see him come game 4? There?s a short turnaround between games 3 and 4 so maybe the staff deemed it best to rest him for one of those games. This is just me trying to be optimistic. We?ll need quality mins from Luke or X!

Yeah, I'm really curious what they saw in shoot around today that made them decide to sit him out. Was it because he wasn't moving well, he felt pain, or something else?

Ok - that is one way to look at it. Heres another:
I won?t be surprised if he?s back - if needed.  And Luke may be able to provide a good enough presence inside defensively.  Luke has been decent in stretches this season.  And the team has a terrific win percentage without KP.   That means with Luke playing.

Makes me wonder if it?s just strategy.  Keep him out tonight.  If Cs should win they can keep him out again in G4.  They might be thinking they have a chance for one more productive game from him and don?t feel they need to risk it tonight.

This is the type of injury where it?s not going to get better in a day or two, it is what it is until it heals or is surgically repaired?so it looks like the determination has been made that the risk of further damage is not worth it. If it?s not worth it today it won?t be worth it on Friday or Sunday either. Or he?s just limited by it to the point where he?s going to be a net negative.

oe Mazzulla said the medical staff felt Kristaps Porzingis didn?t look right:

?It was out of his hands, it was the medical team?s [decision]. They watched him go through some testing and they said it didn?t feel right.?
