Hard pass. He’s not worth gutting our team.

Not sure we would have to get our team but it would most likely cost us Horford - if the deal is Brogdon, Pritchard, Horford, a pick (we have the Warriors) and a pickup swap, I probably do it

Go back and watch Jimmy Butler cook him in the playoffs last season. Jrue looks like he's lost a step and is no longer that defense stalworth

Butler cooked everyone last year. Jrue was the number one option on offense in that series and had to guard Butler who is way bigger than him.

No, we are not.  As much as I’d love to have him it would take too many pieces from the bench and another big fat contract on the books.  It ain’t happening.

I like that Jrue would likely be more reliable than MB - though that's not a given.

Picturing lineups of:
Jrue, Brown, Tatum, KP, and Rob with DWhite on the bench
v.
White, Brown, Tatum, KP, Rob/Al with Malcolm and Rob/Al on the bench.

.. honestly, I think I like current the situation a little better.

Less relevant if you don’t have a bench worth playing. Every Celtics coach of the last, what, 20 years(?) has been critiqued for not playing the bench guys. Most of those bench guys wash out of the league pretty quickly. This isn’t a coincidence.

Further, it doesn’t feel not particularly groundless to assume that coaches have more insight into who deserves playing time than those of us watching at home.

Except a couple of guys who got buried had solid track records for contributing when they got minutes. One got a pretty good contract offer to move to Dallas. I would argue that Joe's misuse led to them not helping as much as in the past - and led to the team blowing several games it should have won.

I love the idea of getting Jrue for Brogdon and picks but the money just doesn't work.

I don't like the idea of adding Horford or Rob into the deal. Jrue is good but he's on the wrong side of 32 and already have a guy, in White, who does a lot of what Jrue does.

Cobbling together the necessary contracts is no easy task.

It's a nice idea but I don't see it happening.

Maybe get a third team involve?
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

The only option I can see without gutting the roster.

Finding a third team is hard. The Celtics would basically need someone who is willing to part with a young, cheap big who could potentially play some minutes in a playoff rotation so that they can afford to get rid of Al or Rob. You also need them to have either cap space or a large expiring big enough to take on Brogdon or Horford. That's a tough ask.

Something like this works in the trade machine:

Celtics get: Jrue Holiday, Nick Richards
Blazers get: Gordon Hayward (expiring with value), Al Horford (has some value), Payton Pritchard
Hornets get: Brogdon, Kornet

You probably need to ship picks to both the Blazers and the Hornets to make it worth their while. Not really worth it probably.

Someone more creative will probably figure something better out, but I'm having a tough time finding a third partner who will play ball with us.
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Point Guard: Anfernee Hardaway, Fat Lever, Terrell Brandon
Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
Power Forward: Jermaine O'Neal, Bobby Jones, Kiki Vandeweghe
Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

Williams was moved for three second round picks to a team that does not particularly appear to be shaping up to be a good basketball team. I’m not sure your argument is starting off on the strongest foot.

To make salaries work we would have to include both Horford and Pritchard (unless we give up DWhite or Rob, which we shouldn’t do).

Something like Brogdon, Horford, Pritchard and picks. I would want to get a third team involved and get a veteran big back.
From what i've seen, there is actually a debate among celtic fans about whether they would rather give up Al or Rob.

For my part, the trade is not remotely worth it as we'd be giving up multiple rotation players, leaving a big hole among bigs.

I guess I third team could make a trade more likely, but it will not reduce what we would have to give up in terms of players and salary.  We still would need move out about the same players being mentioned.

I don't think that Wyc will exceed the second apron, because he's just more interested in making massive profits

If true, that's a problem.
