Taylor Swift is reason enough to have wanted the Chiefs knocked out already. She was even getting talked about during college football games (not involving Kelce's alma mater, by the way). Of course, even if the Chiefs lose this SB, we'll still have to suffer through a hundred pan-overs to her in her luxury box. Good grief.

Part of me wants to root for Mahomes; he's certainly fun to watch. But I'm protective of Brady and his GOAT status, so I'd love for Mahomes to not win another SB (even though a win in this one still leaves four short of Brady, so crowning the GOAT at that point still would seem a bit premature).

Easily need to root for the Niners here. Don't want Mahomes and Chiefs to become a dynasty with this win. And eclipsing the record as the most latest team to repeat b2b Superbowl wins. Travis Kelce also makes me sick, the way he dissed Justin Tucker during pregame the other day.

It's not like there's any historical rivalries between SF and NE, by all means...they're due for a SB.

Does anyone have ESPN+? On ESPN’s front page today, they rank every Super Bowl champion from 1-57. I'm curious as to who made up the top 10 (as 1-57 is simply too much to ask).

Except that SF would win their 6th - tying NE and Pittsburgh.

I don’t care about the Swift stuff - but definitely understand why some are annoyed by it.  Thankfully they only showed her a handful of times during the conference championship.  Kelce doesn’t bother me either. I’d have much preferred the Lions to both but wasn’t meant to be.

It's not an ideal scenario, but I think I'd rather have SF tie NE and PIT than have the Chiefs creep closer to Brady-Patriots dynasty status.

If the Niners were smart, they'd double Kelce and just force the others to beat them. Rice has been great for them but he's not a game changer on his own. The Bills and Ravens for some odd reason just left Kelce wide open even at the LOS and didn't even try to rough him up. Made zero sense. We all know Kelce is a beast but at least try to actually cover him, or maybe make contact with him around the LOS and force him to get physical. Kelce is not a physical player and not a good blocker, he's more of a receiver. Remember the 2018 AFCCG? Kelce even admitted he thought the Pats played "extra physical and grabby" but it wasn't a shot at the Pats or the refs, I think it was the Pats gameplan to actually play physical with Kelce and not leave him open/untouched. Frustrate him too.

KC's not winning due to offense, it's primarily their stout defense led by Spagnuolo. That said, the Dolphins, Bills and Ravens all let KC have pretty easy drives early on and they were playing from behind for some time. Not a good recipe. Niners won't win again if they fall behind 10-0 or more early.

There have been a handful of teams that have matched the Pats 1st dynasty - and there will be more. The Chiefs would then have to do what no team has done other than the Pats.  I don’t think it will happen.
A 49er win and they’ve matched the Pats. Done. Next year possibly pass them.

In all seriousness, why does anyone care if another franchise has more titles or is a "better" dynasty?  What does it matter?  What enjoyment or pride do you get from that?
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I think this comment is disingenuous to be honest. I think everyone knows there’s a little silliness in taking this type of thing too seriously. But you can’t possibly be a fan all these years and be surprised by it.  We’re human - we have interests and  preferences for all sorts of odd reasons. It’s what helps to create rooting interests. And no one needs to explain why it matters. It just does. And you know it.

Not trying to give you a hard time but you have seen very invested over the years in arguing Lebron is better than Jordan. Isn’t that pretty similar?

also a Celtics fan and that stuff doesn't matter to me. Any year Boston doesn't win is a sad year, but it really makes little difference to me who wins if not Boston.  Sure I like some teams more than others (and living in Ohio the year the Cavs won was nice for all my friends), but if not Boston, I really don't care who.

So you don't care if the Lakers have 18 banners over the Celtics 17 banners?  ??? ??? ???

I think that is different. The Celtics and Lakers are/were bitter rivals. There's never been a Patriots-Chiefs rivalry.

There have been more trivial (in the eye of the beholder) arguments here than anywhere in the history of Earth, and suddenly there needs to be an explanation? Take as many pages as you want to argue whether Tom Brady or Bill Belichick mattered more to the Patriots. Or whether Curt Shilling should be in the Hall of Fame. Why would these things really matter to you?  Please provide an explanation because someone out there doesn’t see these things as important. It’s sports - you get passionate about things that don’t really matter. Isn’t that a generally accepted premise?

Here’s the explanation for not wanting SF to win - it feels good that the team I root for has more championships than other teams. Of course that’s a silly thing to care about! It doesn’t matter more than the economy or having healthy children or whether I’m successful in my work or nice to my wife. It’s just a quirky little thing that piques my interest and gets me to want KC to beat SF and makes the SB worth watching. It’s meaningless and meaningful at the same time.  We all know it.  Having to explain sports fandom to sports fans — that’s a much bigger why.

nope  doesn't matter to me at all other than it means Boston didn't win.
