At this point, you know that we are going to have a high draft pick, even at worst, and quite possibly a top 3 or better pick. Our greatest need is clearly QB. We don't currently have an NFL level QB on the roster. The most important position possibly in all of sports, and that is where we are the most hurting.
But drafting a QB with a top 3 pick scares me. There are so many misses every year. Even with a top 3 pick, it might be 50/50 that you get a total bust and maybe 1 in 10 turn out to be a legit star with any level of longevity. If you use that pick and miss, you are doomed.
I would probably trade the pick and try to build up the infrastructure; things like OL, receivers, line backers. There are generally plenty of solid middle to late first rounders that are good at these other positions. Then pick a QB a little later plus sign or trade for a decent vet QB to hold down the fort for a couple of seasons.
I honest believe that we are 1 or 2 OL from a solid line. Once the line is set, the backs and receivers start to look a lot better. Add a hot shot young receiver or two, plus some defensive reinforcements, and I think the team can be really good, assuming we can find a half decent QB.
