I don't think he's worth it but the C's had no choice. Congrats to Jaylen. He has created generational wealth for himself and his family and is now in a position to do a lot of good things moving forward. You can only tip your cap to him.

Hopefully while he's at it, he'll figure out a way to improve his handle so the C's can get some additional value out of this deal. Personally I don't think he gives them enough given the price tag.

I mean the Cs were in a tough spot. Overpay him a ton of money or trade him (and no one was trading for Brown when he could walk).

Now you have him for 5 years so I guess you can move him as needed in the future. I certainly hope his on the court decision making improves and this group can get over the hump.

Can people define "overpayment" or "worth it"?  Does anybody disagree that this is market value?

I guess people can argue that the market is overpriced, but since the market is guaranteed approximately 10% growth for at least a half-decade -- which outpaces JB's annual raises -- this deal only gets better compared to the market over time.

It's a great time to be a talented athlete.

Let's hope he handles the pressure of "biggest contract in NBA history" better than he handled being "the man" in Game 7 versus Miami, and better than he handles the ball.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

Here is the All-NBA Second team:

▪️ Jaylen Brown, Boston Celtics
▪️ Jimmy Butler, Miami Heat
▪️ Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
▪️ Nikola Jokić, Denver Nuggets
▪️ Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland Cavaliers

Here is third team:

▪️ De'Aaron Fox, Sacramento Kings
▪️ LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers
▪️ Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers
▪️ Julius Randle, New York Knicks
▪️ Domantas Sabonis, Sacramento Kings

Would any team in the league NOT offer a supermax to all 5 on the second team?  I think most on the third team would get a supermax from most teams too.  If your argument is that Brown is not worth a supermax, then who is?  And of these 10 players on second team and third team, is there any player with more upside than Brown?

I admit that I am concerned about salary cap and the second apron and all that moving forward.  That it may impact the ability to put a team around Tatum and Brown.

It's an overpayment if you pay the price and still can't win a title with him. To me the guys at the top level need to be guys who automatically make your team a title contender.  He doesn't do that. Put him on Detroit and are they a threat to win a conference title at least?  I don't think so.

What I will say is that Brad has set this up to give Jaylen every opportunity to flourish. He moved on from Smart so no worries about having your 5th best offensive player taking the big shots with the game on the line.  One less option which hopefully helps Jaylen turn into a franchise type player. Because as of now they're paying him to be just that.

Now it's on him.

but we are title contenders with brown.

was Ray allen, Kevin Garnett or paul pierce alone on their teams a threat to win the conference title? apparently none of them were worth it.

Hopefully 2024 can be the year of no distractions.

Top 7 guys all have multiple years left on their contract, as well as 9 of the likely top 11.  Only Pritchard and Kornet have uncertain statuses beyond next season (with Pritchard definitely looking for the door and his bag).

No one appears to be on the trading block (except maybe Pritchard, and hopefully Brogdon holds no grudges).

The coaching staff has been beefed up and appears fully supported by the front office.

Now everyone stay healthy and go win this.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

As currently constituted I'm not so sure we are.

Isn't that true only if the equivalent salary could be used differently in a manner that made it more likely we'd win a championship?  And not just theoretically, but actually?

i'd love to hear how we aren't when we made the game 7 of the ECF last year and the finals the year before.

Marcus smart/Grant williams two roleplayers  is the big difference here?

The only distraction is the idiot at the top of the coaching staff.  I think he'll essentially guarantee that we lose games that we should have won, and that in and of itself is a distraction.
