Quote from: Celtics2021 on July 10, 2023, 09:58:15 AMThere are many small details of negotiations that could be worked out. Options and incentives are obviously the biggest, but trade bonuses are also something, and even signing bonuses and salary advances are negotiable points. If Brown intends to sign and the Celtics don’t intend to trade him, and both sides know both things to be true, there’s no actual hurry for a deal to get done. The official deadline is in October, they’d certainly like one before training camp, and ideally while everyone is still in Vegas. But sometimes negotiating over even small points requires deadlines to make people give up a position.I’m personally in such a situation now at work. Been negotiating with a company since October. We had a soft deadline of March 15th. We blew through that and set a “hard deadline” of June 15th. But since all the time we all knew that the for real deadline was July 15th, we barely talked for April and May, and really started talking again in June 10th. And now it’s July 10th, and we’ll probably agree to something in the next few days that looks 95% like a proposal that was made in mid-January, but there was no deadline so both sides kept negotiating until they were convinced they got the best they could. In other words, it could be about something as seemingly small as when his salary is paid throughout the year. It could be much larger also, but there’s very little that can be read into the situation from the outside.This.

Jaylen Brown’s camp and the Celtics are starting to make progress on a contract extension, sources tell @JaredWeissNBA.The two sides are likely moving closer to an agreement over the coming week.
There was continued dialogue between Jaylen Brown’s camp and the Celtics over the weekend, league sources said, but the sides are still negotiating, and as of Monday morning no deal was imminent. League sources said that there is confidence and hope that an agreement will be reached soon, but it’s unclear how far they are from the finish line. One league source said that “there is work to be done.”– via Boston GlobeJaylen Brown, Boston CelticsBy all indications, the Celtics are offering Brown the full five-year max, but there are various incentives that are likely under discussion. This past season, for example, Brown earned an extra $2 million for playing in 65 games and appearing in the All-Star Game. There could be some discussion over incentives included in this extension that are unlikely to be obtained, such as a bonus for being named league MVP. But according to one former NBA general manager, it’s unlikely that the sides are haggling over those details at this point. The former executive said that the holdup is most likely over a fifth-year player option and/or a potential no-trade clause.– via Boston Globe

I dont think Jaylen is eligible for a no trade clause since he hasnt been in the league for 8 years.
There’s is absolutely zero way we should give him a no trade clause. That should be a hard no. We just saw what happened with Beal and what’s happening with Dame.I’m sure he would want one because he’s been sensitive to the trade talk, but that’s a no-go for me, especially on a contract that’s already borderline too much for him.

But I am confused by the beal Lilliard part. Beal had one they traded him rather easily/Quickly but Lilliard does not have one and is acting like he does right?

The league has already trended to stars demanding to go where they want to go, limiting the market already. You’re seeing what Portland is having to do with Lillard right now; if he had a NTC that deal is probably already done with them getting 25 cents on the dollar. And Beal dictated where he would go, even though they didn’t have much to offer. Though Beal’s value to his contract complicates that some, as his contract currently is not viewed favorably given his production, which itself hampered his market.

He seems to suggest, too, that a NTC is not a possibility, but other deterrences to a trade (like a trade kicker) may be being negotiated.

Jaylen only has 7. It's not even a negotiating point. If I were him I'd want a trade kicker as well. Seeing Smart getting dealt only solidified anyone can pretty much go at any point. If he's going to get moved may as well make some extra money. I'm sure they are saying it's either the trade kicker or 5th year player option. Not both.
