He's eligible for a 2 year, $77 million extension this July. I expect the C's to offer it to him.

Looks like that was the plan.

The Celtics will reportedly offer Kristaps Porziņģis a long-term contract extension in July upon the completion of a three-team trade sending the big man to Boston.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported an extension is the "expectation" between the two parties. A handshake agreement to discuss an extension was likely a condition of Porziņģis opting into his $36 million player option for the 2023-24 season

Some people said it was not worth it for a 1 year rental. I could not believe Brad would have done this deal without a handshake agreement that KP would sign long term.

3 players who can give you 20+ a night and play good defense all just entering their primes.

If everyone stays healthy (always the big IF) this could be an exciting run.

MB and DW also put up 15 (and occasional 20).  Of course with this much offensive weaponry some ppg may come down a bit.  Team dynamics shifted significantly with the KP trade.  Can’t wait.

The only question with him his injury concerns. He's a great player. Gives us a ton of size and spacing. KOC had a really cool write up on the Ringer a couple weeks ago about how good Zinger was last year. He was dominant at scoring in the post and can fire from all three levels. He was also good on the boards and protecting the rim.

Fantastic player, can't believe we got him.

If the Celtic docs can keep him and Brogdon healthy ,  we could see classic beautiful offensive  basketball between them .

We could  come out slightly lower rating on the defensive end without Smart if Zinger isn’t 100%….but our offense should take off with White , Zinger and Brogdon taking the Smart heat check bombs playing high IQ ball , no turnover with hotdog passing.

He has grown mentally tuffer , thicker skinned player and knows better how to avoid injuries…..like Lebron .

We really need Brogdon to stay healthy …..gonna be tall order

Porzingis is a triple threat.  Inside, outside scoring, and a willing passer from the high post.  2.7 assists from your big is very decent.

Pick and roll/Pick and pop is gonna be deadly with him.  I expect Jaylen/Jayson will get some easy baskets working those type of plays with the Unicorn!

BTW Watch Porzingis block Towns in the low post on his way to a 41 point night!  That's a big boy defensive play!

KP has made some significant passing strides over the last two seasons. Still a long way off the best guys, but if he could get up to the 3-3.5 range that would be excellent. Still struggles a bit passing out of doubles in the post, but on a more talented team those may be less likely.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I am excited too. Porzingis is a fun guy to watch. It is just so amazing to see a guy his size be able to do all the things he is able to do. Such a brilliant talent. The guy should really be a top 10 player in the league. Awesome talent.

I used to love watching him with NY and again in DAL. Disappointed him and Luka did not work out (the Euro version of Shaq-Kobe but it wasn't meant to be) although that may work out to our benefit.

Great to have him here.

Fantastic player, can't believe we got him.

Stevens doing a great job of targeting of low value stars / borderline stars on teams that are looking to make a change. First Brogdon. Now Porzingis. Both times teams looking to move on from their stars without much of a market available for them.

Both times in jumps Stevens to pounce on the opportunity to make large talent upgrades at a low cost.

Fantastic opportunism. Long may it continue.

I might add D White to your list. I think he’s done a great job

I've never been much of a fan of his. His height and shooting are undeniable. He does affect shots around the rim and his three point shot is money and borderline unguardable. I just felt like you could take him out of the game pretty easily as a first or second option. I felt like you could essentially neutralize his postups with a strong defender that moved him off his spot. Also when you are the first or second option, I think closeouts and taking away the three are pretty easy. Then I thought if he is the lone solid defender on a bad defensive team (which historically has been the case), it was pretty easy to isolate his weaknesses and not allow him to play to his strengths.

But I've also talked myself into him being an excellent 3rd or 4th option, which is something he's never had the opportunity to be. If as a shooter he is able to play off of Brown, Tatum, and even White, he is much more difficult to neutralize.

The way I look at it, getting front-court scoring was a priority by Stevens. Porzingis is a better type of that of than John Collins, or Vucevic, or Kuzma, or other guys that may be available.

You could even argue that he's a better player than KAT, who I've secretly hoped for. While KAT has a little more scoring versatility and is probably the best big-man shooter of all time, Zinger can play more quickly and fluidly in an offense and is a much better rim protector.

He's a perfect 3rd star. He truly is talented enough to be a star, but his abilities are not really fit to be a number 1 or number 2 guy. His abilities really are perfect to be a 3rd guy that raises the ceiling of a team. Just gotta keep him healthy.
