With Ime, it was mostly guys he had worked with or who he knew through the Portland basketball scene. With the current stay it's two former Celtics players and a really respected assistant coach. As far as I know, none has a prior connection to Joe.You bring up an interesting point. It's my impression that head coaches usually pick their assistants. The new assistants may be good, but if Joe had no or little say in their selection, will he tune them out?I’m sure Mazzulla met with and approved every hiring. Stevens might have used his own connections to reach out, and maybe some of their agents reached out to the Celtics, because it was no secret they were in the assistant coach market. But there’s zero chance any of them would accept the job without having met with and connected with their future boss, nor that Stevens would have hired someone Joe did not like.

“I am a player, not the coach" and "Coaches job is to draw up the plays, my job is to execute" sounds like shots at Joe, sorta implying that he wasn't doing his job as a head coach last season.

WCJ has more value than Smart, we would have to send a future pick I imagine.Would be pretty thrilled if Orlando lost their mind and did that deal though.
