Rich Paul on LeBron James: 'If your athleticism went away, you'd just be Karl Malone'
SiriusXM NBA Radio: “He’s one guy that I’m not going to say no about.” Rich Paul is asked if he thinks LeBron could play until he’s 44 or 45 years old. “I think it’s important to understand what really motivates him. I know it… And as long as his mind is there, as long as he’s still excited about playing the game, in addition to the health, absolutely… I always tease him… I said, if your athleticism went away, you’d just be Karl Malone, it’s fine. You could pick and pop, shoot the jumper, make the right reads… He can literally play for as long as he wants”. @RichPaul4 | @TheFrankIsola | @sarahkustok

I don't understand why so many people decide to make themselves foolish as soon as they get in front of a microphone.

The idea that Karl Malone was unathletic is one of the dumber takes I've seen.  Almost as bad as (mentally ill) Dennis Rodman saying that Larry wouldn't be in today's NBA.

Yes, Malone had a good BBIQ and could shoot the mid-range.  He also was a tremendous athlete.

Lot of these guys grew up seeing Malone in the late 90s and even more so in the early 00s. They only saw late stage career Karl Malone in his late 30s and early 40s.

They have no idea how athletic Karl was in his 20s and early 30s.

They just don't know any better.

I don't think that's what he meant, he just didn't word it that eloquently. Malone is well known for extending his career and staying productive well past his prime due to his mastery of the pick and roll/pop, so all Paul is saying is LeBron can have a similarly productive late period. LeBron's build has also often been compared to Malone's, so the comparison between the two did not just come out of nowhere.

Rich Paul makes it seem like Karl Malone was some schmuck instead of a no-doubt Hall of Famer. “Just” Karl Malone, lol.

Like someone said, probably not what RP meant, but it sounds silly.

It's a bad comparison all around. Malone's finesse in the post is a totally different way of playing. Sure, he and LeBron both have crazy athletic physiques and have decades of dominance - that's about it for similarities

So when Curry calls something in the realm of basketball shooting “RIDICULOUS,” the achievement must be noteworthy. And indeed, what Sabrina Ionescu did on Friday evening was, in fact, ridiculous.

Ionescu set a WNBA and NBA all-time record for a single round score in the three-point contest during All-Star weekend.

The New York Liberty’s point guard scored 37 out of 40 possible points – hitting 25 out of 27 possible shots – as she claimed the three-point contest crown

Can we sign her just for plays that need a 3PT?

I'd love to have her. Very cool achievement.

I wonder why the greatest shooters of all time haven't been able to hit 27/27 unguarded shots. I understand that there's extra pressure because of fans and the timer. I wouldn't be shocked if Curry or Ray Allen have hit 100 3 pointers in a row unguarded. Heck, I once hit 10 three's in a row in JV practice years ago and I sucked at basketball.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

You can safely presume that the Dallas Mavericks are rooting for Atlanta to win the trade race for Toronto’s Siakam … and that they’re also hoping such a trade features Hawks center Clint Capela as opposed to a strictly De’Andre Hunter-centric deal. Capela has two seasons left on his current contract valued at nearly $43 million. The Raptors would appear to have little need for a pricey center after re-signing Jakob Poeltl this month to a four-year deal worth $78 million, so a theoretical trade of Siakam to the Hawks that features Capela would open the door for Dallas to join the trade as a third team or pursue a separate deal with Toronto for Capela. – via Marc Stein @ marcstein.substack.com

Quote
There is an inherent skepticism around the league when it comes to the Raptors and their willingness to trade Siakam or any other front-line player after last February’s trade deadline, when Toronto entertained various proposals involving multiple Raptors and wound up trading none of them. You’ll surely recall that the Raptors actually added to the team’s core instead by trading for Poeltl. I nonetheless came away from my time at summer league in Las Vegas with the distinct impression that the Raptors are still exploring another move. Maybe even two. – via Marc Stein @ marcstein.substack.com

If TOR is shaking things up, I think a good target would be Precious Achiuwa ($4.3M) to be our 4th big (replace Grant).  We have two options, one would be to trade Pritchard, the other is to offer picks and use the TPE.  They currently have 15 players signed (14 guaranteed).  If a trade of Siakam required taking back more than 1 player, they may need to do something else to free up a roster spot.  A lot of "ifs".

First time, Embiid has hinted if not in Philly, somewhere.

Him and Tatum would win 4 titles easy together.

It's time Embiid...you won't win anything in Philly. Join us. We'll be happy to give up Timelord in a package for ya.

Tatum/Porzingis/Embiid is a ferocious front court

Did we break philly?

One more early exit next year and I think Embiid is asking out.

Maybe this is what Brad is hoarding all these assets for. For when someone like Embiid or Doncic asks out.

Embiid has been a long-term admirer of ours. Brown + Timelord + significant draft compensation (i.e., handful of firsts and swaps) for Embiid would be fun. Never happening, but the team would be huge

White / Pritchard
Brogdon / Hauser
Tatum / Walsh
Porzingis / Brissett
Embiid / Horford

Yes!

All you need is Embiid to ask for a trade and say the only team he’ll go to willingly is the Celtics.

This is why (one reason) I hope Lillard fails in his quest to join the Heat.  Really bad precedent.

He is hoarding assets and the super max is more important than ever too. Maybe Danny taught him well although the assets never left for Davis.

Embiid competing teams could be Dallas and their disgruntled superstar. Another year of Kyrie and it is possible he wants out. If Embiid was available, we could lose out on both.

Lakers and Davis probably a chance. Lebron usually gets who he wants.

Twolves and Towns? Embiid surely wouldnt want that scenario so scratch that.

Harden leaves, and Sixers get bounced early and Kyrie drives Doncic mad . Next summer could be a wild one.
