If we can’t get JRich, I’d welcome Javonte Green back with open arms for the vet minimum to help with backup wing minutes.

Am I the only person that thinks Josh Richardson is an unrealistic target? I keep seeing his name come up, but I think he can get more than $5m in free agency and find a team with a more featured role.

One team with significant interest in signing Bruce Brown away from Denver is the Los Angeles Lakers, multiple sources told
@denverpost
.

The Lakers could offer him the full MLE ($12.3M annually). Nuggets can only offer up to $7.8M this year.

How do they have the cap to keep Reaves, Hachimura, and go out to sign Bruce Brown while maintaining LeBron and Davis. Can't PBS jump in on this.
Restricted Bird rights on Hachimura, Restricted Early Bird rights on Reaves. They're very limited in the guys that they can sign from outside the team, though, as they more or less only have the MLE.

It does depend a bit on the offers that those guys get in free agency, however, if they keep Russell with a large contract as is expected.  The first apron hard cap is still a thing that exists if you use the full MLE.  If there's a team that views Rui as an $18-20 million player, or maybe even $15 million, they'll still have to make choices.  Since unrestricted free agents normally come to deals before restricted free agents, the Lakers will have to be careful that they don't lock themselves into the hard cap with not enough room to match a Rui contract they'd otherwise wish to.

Yeah that's a good point - but unless I'm missing something very obvious (always possible) the league and the Lakers' FO will likely already factored in Hachimura's 'free agent amount' at 250% of his current salary, no?

The hard cap is the hard cap.  It’s not based on a free agent hold — those only apply to the soft cap.  If they sign Brown with the MLE, they will not be allowed to sign Hachimura, Reaves, or any other player they have Bird rights to if that contract would put them over the first apron, regardless of their cap hold entering free agency.

I am the opposite. I am surprised so many people think he will get more than the minimum.

I don't see any team offering a more significant role than the C's will be offering. A comparable role, yes, but not a bigger one.

The guy was fine last year but he's never made more than 12.2 million in a season. There doesn't seem to be all that much buzz around him. I doubt he gets the non-tax MLE. MAAAYBE somebody gives him the room exception once at 7.7 million buts that's as high as I see him going for.

Idk about that. A team like Cleveland can offer him a potential starting role with a chunk of their non-taxpayer MLE, say $7m or so. It's not like the free agent market is full of wing players this year. There's talk of Max Strus getting $12m per year and Dillion Brooks is going to get around $15m. Kelly Oubre is probably going to get similar money. Those are the "name" guys. After that is a drop off but teams will still have a need.

Ah right - I forgot that the non-taxpayer MLE also acts as a trigger to turning the first apron into a hard cap. TP for the clarification.

Is Kyrie down to take the MLE or minimum or whatever tiny amount the Suns could offer who currently have 4ish max players?

I'm assuming they'd try to do a sign & trade around Ayton.

At least we wouldn't have to worry about the Suns as contenders anymore.

Man if this would happen I have my popcorn bucket ready to go.  Wow that would be a trainwreck IMO.

It’s just terrible roster building, too. The skill sets are so overlapping and redundant, and there’s only one ball to go all the way around. Would be idiotic to trade Ayton + to make this happen, as it would restrict them even more in filling out the roster.

That said, this won’t happen and is 100% a bargaining move by Kyrie to get Dallas to pay up.
