  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
LOL, even old Perk is getting emotional   Game 7 was a kick in the gut, Makes many want to make immediate changes!! I mean how else do you cope with the Frustration? As I said before, Donovan Mitchell made sense to me last year when it was obvious Utah was moving him. I think he would have fit perfectly with JT.  Oh well, we didn't do it, but come on JB is an Allstar, also as I said in another post, he and Tatum have an incredible winning record.  It is my opinion, you only make moves when it makes the team Better. Not when you are upset over a loss, that is the worst time to make a move.

Funny enough, a 3-way deal would have made a lot of sense with the Cavs/Jazz last year with Mitchell coming here, Jaylen going to CLE, and all the same assets that CLE sent to UTA still going there. They had and still do have a desperate need for a wing, but it's unlikely they trade him one year after acquiring him. It was also unlikely we traded Jaylen right after we went to the Finals. Just off timing I guess.

This is just a few months ago when Perk called them the best duo in the NBA. Perkins is a clown show looking for clicks and social media engagement. Dude changes his opinions like he does underwear - at least, I hope.

He openly admits this. It is not about analysis. It is about generating eye-balls & discussion. He'll say what he thinks will get the most discussion rather than what he really thinks.

A lot of those guys operate like that. At least Perk admits it.
But is this really the get out of jail free card it should be?

Nah, it's not really a flex at all. It actually makes him more pathetic.

You could almost feel bad for him if he was just an idiot who couldn't get out of his own way. But acting like a moron to get attention is embarrassing. Might as well call himself Kendrick Kardashian.

I don’t know if Perk is actually a dumbass or if he just plays one on TV.  His opinions belong in the dumpster.

At the risk of sounding contrarian, isn't it a little premature to be wanting Jaylen shipped out? I know he was bad against Miami but wasn't he our best player against Golden State in the finals last season?

That's the argument Chris Forsberg is putting forward on NBC Sports Boston:

Quote
In the emotional aftermath of a maddening Game 7 in which Jaylen Brown turned the ball over eight times, it’s easy to stomp your feet and demand the Celtics explore trade options. Brown’s underwhelming play in the East Finals will overshadow an All-NBA season in which he showed encouraging growth. Brown had notable moments of regression in the postseason, which will leave some leery about offering him $ 295 million this summer.

We are not certain there’s a more agreeable path.

While much of Boston’s inability to fully maximize its opportunities in recent seasons falls back on its superstars, it's prudent to take a deep breath before you jump on the NBA trade machine to deal a 26-year-old Brown for any 30-plus-year-old scorer, or some collection of spare parts.

Now, Brown absolutely needs to continue evolving his game, particularly his ball security. But few were lamenting his flaws when he was the more consistent of Boston’s stars for stretches of the season.

If we’re president of basketball operations Brad Stevens, we’re putting the supermax in front of Brown as soon as allowed, hoping he’s committed to Boston despite his sometimes conflicted relationship with an antsy fan base, and figuring out the rest from there.

Agree.  Talent like JB’s doesn’t come around ever day - especially as a number 2 guy.  I’m for finding the right coach long before I’m giving up on the Jays.

Perkins is literally changing his opinion every day. I'm not surprised a lot of NBA players think he's a clown in the media. Ibaka, KD, Lillard, Reddick, etc. all have called him out on it

Lol
Reddick is a tool bag!

Perkins is right! Perkins played with an all time great in Garnett who had the same win at all cost mentality as Jordan

Brown is soft and is not a super max guy , he’s a shooter and that ain’t worth 60 per

You don’t just trade Brown, u trade for better value if it’s there!

Can we trade Perk again?  I’ve been done with him for awhile.
Wonder if Jeff Green would be a good analyst :P

He's trying to build a name for him as a controversial media talking head. Maybe he has his eye on Stephen A's job  :police:

Whether or not Reddick is a “tool bag”, he knows infinitely more about basketball than Perk

Shannon Sharpe is leaving his gig, so there's an opening for a clueless shouting idiot.

Yeah, he's the worst. Probably my least favorite NBA commentator. He's almost always wrong, and then changes his opinion right after. Called a Heat win in Game 6, followed by a Celtics win in Game 7. At least stick with your awful opinions, dude.

Without a genius coach, Perk might be right.

Is Brown capable of being the Pippen to Tatum? I am not sure. Maybe the right coach could scheme them better together. Brown was amazing last year in the playoffs under Ime.

Is Brown worth a supermax to a team who has an alpha ahead of him? He is worth a super max to some teams out there though as option one but he doesn’t appear to make others better around him but that could be coaching too. The wound of game 7 lingers and he was absolutely horrible when we needed him most.
This doesn't directly relate to your post, but I'm tired of the national media comparing Tatum and Brown to great championship duos like Jordan/Pippen, Lebron/Wade, or even different position duos like Magic/Kareem, Kobe/Shaq, Bird/McHale, etc.

It is offensive to those all-time great duos who both were better (or at least one was way better) than Tatum let alone Brown who isn't even a top 20 player in the sport.  Tatum and Brown are much closer to a duo like Moncrief/Johnson or Nash/Amar'e than they are to those all-time great duos.  Tatum and Brown could win a title, especially if Tatum gets into that top 3 range as a player, but it is far more likely they never reach the Finals again than actually win the title because they quite simply aren't collectively in that class of player.

Maybe Kawhi & Lowry/Siakam is a more reasonable one :P

I love perk, because he’s perk…..but his opinion on this matter immediately following that brutal loss is about as useful as he was shooting a 3.
