I took Smart's comments along the line of "we all deserved to be criticized after that" "we all deserve to be criticized when lose that badly" even the head coach / including the head coach. We stunk and we deserved criticism.

I didn't think Smart was having a go at him.

When he said “we all need to be held accountable…even coaches” I took thst to mean there’s been some brutal honesty directed joes way for some of his decisions, like the Timelord one. Thst one seems to have been very popular with the team. And Joe 100% needs to hear it, certainly privately if not publicly. It’s the no way he will learn.

the timelord thing baffled me. clearly it was the lineup that vaulted us last year to this great defense. yet this playoffs hes playing 18 minutes off the bench.

then we go back to the 2 big lineup. and what do you know? the defense gets better and the sixers dont have an easy pass to the lane. you are making PJ tucker beat you instead of embiid/harden

Team won more regular season games this season than they did last Not going with the 2 big starting rotation. Rob’s body also held up for the most part once he made his season debut. For this series, an adjustment was needed due to matchups and the coach made it.

The team won a higher percentage of its games when Timelord started:  16-5, a 62 win pace.
As I've been saying for years, I think that is less about Rob and more about Tatum at SF with Brown at SG.  The team is quite simply better when Tatum is at SF because he is just so much better there than anywhere else and he doesn't get as worn out with guarding bigger bodies in defense.  Couple that with Brown having a big size advantage at SG and that is how Boston should play.

It could be.  Tatum advocated publicly for the two-big lineup during the season.

I also think it helps the defense, though.

besides Tatum getting out of his slump, it really was this 2 big lineup that saved the celtics season. the defense the last two games was smothering.

I'm hoping/guessing we will stay with this lineup against Miami. considering how undersized they are it should be advantage C's in the paint if we have both Horford/Timelord out there.

the results speak for themselves.  Hopefully now with the results being so great we stick with it (I cant see us not) we are going to need it in the next round since the Heat are going to want to muck the game up and make it ugly

So if the Celtics beat Miami, should they fire Spoelstra?  But if we lose, we should fire Mazzulla.

Joe hasn't absolved himself yet. He did a good job today sticking with what worked.

Hopefully he can look at this series and continue to swallow his pride and use what worked for us last year.

Only if you think Spoelstra is a very poor coach who is in over his head, and who makes decisions that impede his team's chance to win.

You understand If Joe did the logical thing starting Rob gm 1 we probably finish this in 5 game, 6 at worse?

Joe proved he can add 2+2 this series. Let's hop he keeps it up.

Sure because they are big at every position instead of undersized at 2 of them and both Tatum and Brown are better guarding SF and SG than they are at guarding PF and SF (Brown is obviously fine guarding SF, but he uses his size well on defense not just on offense at SG).

You do not play your best player out of position.  This isn't a difficult concept.  Tatum is Boston's best player and Tatum is a SF.  It isn't rocket science.

All good (or potentially good) coaches are learning on the job, especially young ones.  He’s using timeouts better and he made the crucial switch to Rob starting.  I don’t think starting Rob makes him a good coach, but he did make the right move.  And he didn’t do it too late. Almost, but not too late.  Bottom line is that the Cs are still alive with their young coach and many expected the Philly series to go 7.

I'd go with:  Smart, Brown, Tatum, Grant, Al against Miami.  I think this is a series where Grant can shine as Miami is smaller, but that still gets Tatum at SF.  I also think Al will do fine against Bam.  Rob comes in for either Al or Grant depending on how it is going.  Grant can also spell Tatum/Brown against Butler on some possessions and hopefully wear him down (something Rob can't do except in help situations) and with Love no longer be an effective post player I don't have the concern about Tatum wearing down guarding him.

I'm starting the free Grant Williams petition now.
