Durant is a spectacular player, but there was never a Durant for JB trade, straight up, that was discussed (reportedly).  If I'm remembering correctly, the rumors were that BRK wanted Brown + Smart + multiple picks; we allegedly threw out Brown + White + #1 as a talking point.

How would our season look right now if we had the same roster as we do now, minus White and with KD missing 21 games?  That's saying nothing about the future.

My opinion remains the same:  a trade for Durant only made sense if the team thought it was probable that JB would leave in free agency.

Jaylen Brown's TS% is now 58.5% compared to the league average 58.1%.

Smart is the only Celtic with a below average (well below average of 53.4%). Jaylen is the 2nd worst among the top 10 players on the team. All the others are 59.4% to 63.4% TS%.

Jaylen's average scoring efficiency combined his poor AST:TO ratio and AST:FGA continue to limit his overall offensive impact despite his impressive skillset.

this is looking more and more like a missed opportunity for the c’s.

jb is an elite athlete, even by nba standards, but has significant flaws that aren’t improving (ball handling, shot selection, turnovers, footwork, transition defense, bbiq).

in hindsight, pbs should have risked it and pulled the trigger.

for 90% of the game tonight, we saw improvement in a lot of those areas.  9 assists, moving the ball well, pick and choosing his spots to attack the rim.  You can't just ignore most of the game and then come out and say we should trade JB because of this 'lack of improvement'.   JB wasn't the problem tonight.  Team rebounding was the main reason we lost.  We gave them WAY to many 2nd, 3rd, 4th opportunities.

jb shot us out of the game late in 4Q/OT. 46% FG, 14% 3pt, 4 TO, 3 missed FT, poor defense most of the game, stupid fouls in crunch time, and horrific shot selection and iso when the game was on the line. at one point late in the game, i think he missed six shots in a row on six c’s possessions. if you’re gonna be a $106,000,000 guy, you have to play like a closer.

stating jb played well 90% of the game is arguable but even if that was true, 90% gets you a nice shoe deal but it doesn’t win championships.

give me kd for jb at the deadline all day.

Jaylen Brown was the only reasons this game was at all close. About the only thing he did poorly was shoot the threes, pretty much everything else was good to great.

Dude played 135 minutes in four days and was probably our best player in that stretch as yet people are STILL going to try and gaslight this blog into thinking Brown is the porblem. Please Stop Its Embarrassing.

that knife cuts both ways, i.e. the game was close, not a 14 point regulation victory, because jb shot us out of it down the stretch. not as much of an issue, if you’re not the $106MM man whom we kept over kd.

don’t lose sight of the point here: we’re not discussing jb in a vacuum, but whether pbs should have pulled the trigger on kd. h2h, kd scores more (and more efficiently), rebounds the same, produces more assists, and offers additional length the c’s sorely need.

we’re biased because jb wears green but any objective person takes kd every time.

No, we don't take KD every time.  There was a time maybe, but trading for KD at this point means you want a single title (see the LA Rams).  If you want a dynasty, you are not sending JB for KD.  It all goes back to drafting and the failure of this team to draft in the mid and late lottery.  Go through and look at the selections and see who was still there.  IMO, the worse was 2020 taking Nesmith at 14 with Cole Anthony sitting right there!

I hate to break it to you, Boston isn't going to be a dynasty as currently constructed.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Even assuming Boston made literally 0 other moves (except Muscala), I'd be pretty happy right now with a roster of

Starters - Smart, Brogdon, Durant, Tatum, Rob
Bench - Pritchard, Hauser, Grant, Muscala, Al, Blake, Kornet

That team would be much better positioned to win the title this year, next year, and the year after.  And that is without any other moves, which I'm guessing may have happened.

We'd probably be better if it was Smart instead of White given how they've both played this year.

Boston could get lucky and win the title this year as constructed, but with Durant they'd be the HEAVY HEAVY favorite to win.  No other team would be close.

Side note since KD came up. ll I think Suns are a better fit for KD so things worked out for KD in not keeping to the trade demand.

Do you think C's would be better if it was JB and Smart to Nets for KD?

I agree, and it's because of poor drafting, trades, and lack of ability to move in free agency.

What moves do you think ended the potential Celtics dynasty?
