Seems like Barton will pursue a buyout. If so, Boston should be ALL over him there.

Then make a trade for a backup PF/C (Vanderbilt, Naz Reid, Drummond, PJ Washington, etc.)

I haven’t seen Barton play lately. Does he still have anything left in the tank? I remember him being a really good scorer when he was in Denver.

He definitely does. He's having a bit of a down year with the Wizards, but just last year he was a great complement to Jokic (averaging 15/5/4) shooting 45%, and 38% from behind the arc.

But also, he's a veteran, brings energy to every game and is versatile (can play 3 positions). He'd be a pretty good backup to the Tatum-Brown duo and has size too. FWIW, Barton does also tend to have some of his best games against the Warriors, which can also potentially help down the road.

He's my ideal buyout target. If he's like our 8th or 9th man, then we have a deep team

Not really. His shooting has fallen off a cliff, which is bad if you are mainly a slasher/cutter. He's also never been a great defender.

He's fine, but I wouldn't expect him to be in the playoff rotation.

His shooting hasn't really fallen off a cliff.  His at-rim shooting has (dropped from 70% to 58% this year), and he's also getting pushed away from the rim more so he's taking more long 2s when he shoots inside the line.  His 3-point shooting is right in line with his 3-year average (37.0% vs. 37.2%).  I think that drop could be a bit due to scheme, and also not having Jokic.  The Celtics have generally been good at hitting cutters this year, and he could see that number improve in Boston.

I think he'd be on the fringe of the playoff rotation.  A 9th man in round 1 and maybe round 2, but getting dropped in the later rounds.  He'd be a better-than-average get off the buyout market, but it's the buyout market for a reason.

League sources, who were granted anonymity so they could speak freely, have suggested that the Celtics are angling to add another center behind Al Horford and Robert Williams. The Boston front office would like to give Joe Mazzulla another option outside of Luke Kornet, according to those sources, though he has done a solid job when given the opportunity this season, including Thursday night. “Guys hear the chatter, guys hear the talking and it motivates them,” said Malcolm Brogdon. “I think it motivated a few guys tonight, especially the big talk and the wing talk. What's the rationale for a team obviously in a win right now mode to trade a guy for future assets who is scoring 14 points in 25 mpg and shooting the 3 at a great clip?  Seems he can contribute to their championship aspirations this year.

The Nets still have championship aspirations after having traded Irving and Durant?  I think the bigger hurdle is they might like to keep him long term.
