Doubt that happens. Even without him.

I hope it wasn't a paid day off. In midst of long home stand he couldnt show up for the game? Especially after dropping the first game to Orlando? Top it off its a home day weekend game , what about people that bought tickets so their kid could get to see their hero play? Very disappointing, let his team mates and fans down.

Not to mention that he knew the season schedule and his son's birthday well in advance. He had plenty of time to plan accordingly and avoid a conflict.

I'm not too worried. They could have called it a "load management day" and nobody would have complained but because it's a personal day it's all of a sudden a big deal. We should be able to play with players out, with our depth. It's a test for the other guys to be able to play without our No1 guy, God forbid he's unavailable for games in the playoffs. We should have had more than enough weapons to beat Orlando without him.

I’m not sure I share in the outrage. Tatum has been the consummate professional and has played in a ton of games if we include long playoff pushes. If anything, I wish he took a couple more days off if that could have given him more juice in the finals.

This would be a non-story if the Celtics had beaten the Magic today.

Regardless, you have a problem if your team loses b2b to the same team at home, to an 11-20 team. You shouldn't need Tatum against these guys. JB, Timelord, Horford, Smart, Brogdon not enough?

I’m guessing this was planned in advance, seeing that they expected to beat Orlando twice at home anyway. JT has logged so many minutes so what’s one missed game vs Orlando in order for him to spend some time with his son. Unfortunately, the team lost both games which makes this “day off” a bit more annoying to some fans. I myself am quite ticked off but I’ll give JT a pass on this. We should have beaten that Orlando team if we played our usual game.

I'm sure all those guys who have numbers in the rafters would've taken a day off after losing the finals the year before......

We're going to be fighting for the 1 seed against a MKE team with the best player on the planet.

People going to be fine if they edge us out by a game?

People were upset last year when we went for home court over the Bucks instead of trying to dodge the Nets in the first round so who knows.

I 100% don’t care. We’re talented enough to play anyone in the East. To make the Finals, you have to play the best at some point.

I much prefer to have a well rested team heading into the playoffs vs home court. The Celtics proved that they can win in the road, but got tired in the Finals.

If this "personal" day off is, in fact, so he could be at home all day for his son's birthday ...................

1) he should never have been given a day off for something so ridiculous ....
2) he should have never asked for a day off for something so ridiculous.....
3) if true and the team approved it, and worse, Tatum thought this was a good idea ..

then I am stunned.

Surely, there is a whole lot more to this than his kid's birthday party. That's not even a reason.
I'll withhold final judgement until I hear the full story. Even soft, sensitive Jason would not pull a stunt like this.
More of a story you might read about Crazy Kyrie, not one of these current Celtics. Please tell me No.

Birthdays are ridiculous, full stop. But we should all be lobbying for better workplace rights.

Tatum has the 3rd highest minutes played in aggregate this season, and the 2nd highest per game. He has only missed one game all season.

Given this knowledge, I doubt anyone would have said boo if he had been "rested" because of workload. But because it's a birthday party people are up in arms about it

Be honest and ask yourself - had the given reason for his absence been his workload, would your opinion be different?

Though I guess JT only has himself to blame for posting to Instagram to celebrate his kid's birthday, if he had kept it on the d/l nobody would have been the wiser
