I don’t want to talk about TMZ/Twitter BS. Purely basketball- what does Brown have to do to garner respect from Celtics fans on the court? In my eyes, he’s already earned my respect.

He will not. This is the same fan base that thought it was hilarious that IT cooked his hip getting the C's to the conference finals, all because IT said he wanted to be paid like the other All-stars. "Objective" fans who argued that Tatum and Brown should be split up aren't going to walk that back now.

I know Jaylen has felt disrespected by fans. I wonder how many other athletes see this and want to steer clear from a fan base that spews toxic sludge, especially while winning.

Me critiquing the fit of Brown and Tatum is not disrespect or not appreciating Brown.  Brown is a great player.  Will and should be an all star and if he continues like he has, will and should make his first All NBA Team.  But it also goes without saying he is not as good or as important as Tatum and he never will be.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

The Hield and Collins recommendation was weird, but you’re not alone. A lot of people criticized Brown when he was drafted and haven’t stopped, despite excellent results on the court. https://www.boston.com/sports/boston-celtics/2020/06/04/jaylen-brown-protests-stats-commentary/?amp=1

JT and JB have similar skill sets because they can do most things. There’s an overlap because they are relatively complete players. Buddy Hield wouldn’t play on this team because he can’t play defense at a high level. Smart, Brogdon and White are more complete players.

I think Tatum is the best player on the team, but Jaylen has been my favorite player of the current Celtics. I honestly haven't been following the recent Kyrie/Brown stuff and thats on me.

On the court, I hope Jaylen and Jayson are Celtics for a LONG time.

I think the vast majority do appreciate what JB means to this Celtics team. He’s having an incredible year and him and JT are the best duo in the NBA.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I’m not sure. Some preferred Kris Dunn/Marquesse Chriss and now some prefer Buddy Hield/John Collins. I’m not trying to pick on Moranis here as he’s being honest. I’ve heard many others criticize Jaylen and I’m trying to figure out the basketball related reasons.

Off the court, I’ve heard fans say that they think he has too many other interests. Others didn’t like the choice of a liberal school like Cal. Others didn’t like his hair.

What percentage of fans aren't appreciating JB for his play on the court?

I’m not sure. Like politics, the loud minority tends to drown out the quiet majority.

Jaylen would be coveted by many teams, but do Celtics fans like him?

I do recall reading some of that, however, believe it was during his first few years in the league. There are always going to be some people that criticize him. People also criticize JT for iso ball and taking bad shots, Smart for jacking too many 3’s and trying to make highlight reel passes that result in TO’s. Or White being inconsistent, Grant being a poor rebounder, the coach for not calling timeouts, and so on and so forth…

Even on this blog, how many fans don't like Jaylen?

The harshest critics I'm seeing are saying that he (independently) doesn't impact winning.  I don't believe that's true, but it depends on how far you want to go with that argument.  JB can't lift a bad team into the playoffs on his own; perhaps Tatum could.  But, if you make that argument, does it mean you don't appreciate JB?

For his on the court stuff, I'm just not noticing a lot of "haters" that criticize him unreasonably.

As for "don't like Jaylen", that's different than appreciating him for his on-court contributions.  I'm sure there are plenty of fans who don't care for Jaylen for some of the things he has said, or refused to say, in interviews and social media.  Posting video of a hate group, and then leaving it up on social media after being educated of that group's views, might be distasteful to some.  I mean, if Gordon Hayward posted positively about a group of chanting KKK members, and later left the post up saying "I wasn't wearing my reading glasses; I thought those were little kids trick-or-treating", I'm sure that wouldn't sit well with some, either.

Feels like there’s been a lot of displeasure on this site lately about some perceived unjustified disrespect of JB that just doesn’t seem to be based in reality. I’ve not seen this disrespect that is being touted by some fans and posters; in fact, in my eyes Brown has been overwhelmingly praised for his play and elevated to the top duo in the league alongside Tatum.

Did a lot of Celtics fans (and NBA people in general) question us picking Brown at 3 given the other potential options (e.g. Butler trade)? Sure.

Are JB’s contributions and overalls skills somewhat overshadowed by Tatum’s superstar status? Absolutely.

But neither of those things equate to JB being disrespected by the Celtics fanbase.

I feel like he's always been appreciated. It's just that he plays alongside Tatum who tends to get more accolades, and that then gets perceived as disrespect for Jaylen.
