I really hope the Cs get some compensation.  Sources (the Nets) say the Cs will let Ime "freely" leave.  The Nets have some PHI picks from the Harden/Simmons trade so they have some 1st to spare.

They are letting him walk for free so they get out of his contract

Not sure what the deal is with Snyder.  If he had the choice of the Celtics or the Nets, you would think he would pick the Celtics.  Or just about any other team outside of the Lakers over the Nets.  If he wanted to coach this season, you would think he would have just stayed with the Jazz.  I suspect he is not an option for the Nets.

To me, if the Nets can get Udoka, that is a huge win for them.  The "issues" with Ime will seem small compared to everything else going on there.  It will be in the news for a bit and then Kyrie will do or say something stupid and Ime will be forgotten.   Ime can step right in.  What could be better, at least for this season, than Ime?

Quote
Utah Jazz coach Quin Snyder has resigned after eight seasons with the franchise, the team announced Sunday.

Jazz ownership and management spent several weeks trying to convince Snyder to return as coach -- even offering a contract extension -- but he simply decided that his time had come to step away from the job, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Snyder had two years left on his contract, including his own option on the final year, sources told Wojnarowski.

Snyder, who underwent hip surgery after the season, has been recuperating back to full health. If he decides to make himself a candidate for other coaching jobs in the future, it is expected that Snyder would be a high priority for almost any team with an opening.

Nets want to hire Ime per Shams. Boston needs to block it or get a player/pick for compensation

Just so you and others are aware, players cannot be sent as part of compensation for the hiring of a coach or other management personnel.  This is often why there are prohibitions on future trades between such teams, such that a trade couldn’t be potentially viewed as compensation for the coach.

Draft picks are allowed.  Whether the Celtics would seek one would likely depend on whether or not management feels there is a legitimate path for Udoka to return to the Celtics.  If they aren’t going to bring him back, you just let him go, and maybe work out a deal with Udoka to be repaid some amount of salary depending on the terms of his suspension.  If bringing him back is still a realistic option (I don’t think it is, personally), then yes, absolutely you demand a pick.

I think you demand a pick either way.  Ime will work again.  I'm sure if the C's wanted to terminate his contract now they could.  Nothing stops them from terminating his contract without pay at a later date.  Letting him go for nothing just benefits a rival.  I could see a few 2nds.  It would be amazing to get a 1st.  The compensation depends on how bad they want him and what KD thinks about Ime.

Yeah, the only way you just let him go is if he's signing with a team in the West (other than, say, the Lakers). You don't let him go to another team in the division without compensation.

It'd be another story if he was a horrible coach last year, but that isn't the case here
I'm bitter.

I think they already have reason to release him for cause with the sexual harassment and not pay his salary.

I think the Nets are trying make the Cs look like they're the bad guys if the teams can't come to an agreement. They're trying to create leverage where they have none in a negotiation for his release and if it falls through they can sell it to their fans if it doesn't happen.

Of course this all purely speculation.

I would not let Ime walk to join our competitor in our own division. The Nets need him, we don't need to let Ime do anything. I would demand compensation , and I would ask for Claxton and hold firm.

Ime may know the team's weaknesses since he is the former Celtics coach but Mazz will have to do a better job now

They have reason to release him but that's very different from being able to prove it in a way where they wouldn't have to pay his salary. This is an HR/legal boon to the C's in that way.
