Speaking of bin fires, looks like Udoka might be a candidate?

Yikes.

I immediately assumed Ime was their target when I first saw this news. One would guess the wheels are already in motion to get him from us.
Could we trade Udoka for draft picks? Or would this simply be a release and resign situation?

I'm not very good at knowing the motivations of GMs/ownership, but it would seem to me that it would be a gift to C's management for the Nets to hire Ime. Cs may ask for a draft pick, but Nets would be foolish to give one.

This is a tricky situation.  If they hire him he can waive his salary and the C's won't have to pay a dime.  I would still ask for a 1st round pick.  This does not benefit the C's letting him go now for no compensation.  I'm sure there will be a few teams after the season who want Ime and the C's can let him go at that point.  Ime and the Nets are the one's who benefit by the C's letting him go now.  Screw that make the pay or they can roll with their current staff.

I don't follow (I probably don't understand all the GM/Owner motivations either).  How would this be a gift?  Right now, the Celtics have the option to bring Ime back or "release" him at some later date.  It is not like he is taking up a roster spot or cap space.  I would say absolutely a first round pick to allow any discussion.  Ime will help the Nets.  He is a good coach.  It would be a huge win for the Nets to get him.

Not saying Nash is a great coach but he never really had a chance with the Nets with all their dysfunction (especially Kyrie, now Simmons added to the mix)

Nets want to hire Ime per Shams. Boston needs to block it or get a player/pick for compensation

Just so you and others are aware, players cannot be sent as part of compensation for the hiring of a coach or other management personnel.  This is often why there are prohibitions on future trades between such teams, such that a trade couldn’t be potentially viewed as compensation for the coach.

Draft picks are allowed.  Whether the Celtics would seek one would likely depend on whether or not management feels there is a legitimate path for Udoka to return to the Celtics.  If they aren’t going to bring him back, you just let him go, and maybe work out a deal with Udoka to be repaid some amount of salary depending on the terms of his suspension.  If bringing him back is still a realistic option (I don’t think it is, personally), then yes, absolutely you demand a pick.

I think you demand a pick either way.  Ime will work again.  I'm sure if the C's wanted to terminate his contract now they could.  Nothing stops them from terminating his contract without pay at a later date.  Letting him go for nothing just benefits a rival.  I could see a few 2nds.  It would be amazing to get a 1st.  The compensation depends on how bad they want him and what KD thinks about Ime.

Well letting him walk ties you for sure to JM. Might as well make him permanent.

My rationale is that it takes Ime off the table, no longer the ever-present reminder that there's a decision to be made down the road.  Letting him walk away alleviates the what to do about Ime discussion and allows them to more easily move past the whole thing. Maybe takes some pressure of Joe as well (who knows).  Additionally, even though the $$ may be relatively inconsequential, they are paying someone to do nothing (they are paying him, right?).  That is irritating regardless of the amount.  So if I'm the Nets in response to the draft pick request, I say OK never mind we'll hire someone else.

They would be better off signing Quinn Synder if he'd accept.  I'm not sure many coaches want to touch the NETS job right now with Kyrie on that team.  That team is one blowup away from a rebuild.  Ime may be the best option.

Do we really want to face that team in playoffs with our former coach? First or no go is the starter. I dont want Udoka saving that franchise though.

😁 what a look for the Nets though, someone who was suspended for god knows what vs a woman soon to be leading a racist and malcontent. The boos towards Kyrie and Udoka will break sound barriers.

Not sure what Mr. Silver will say about allowing someone who was suspended for a year for something bad vs a woman and letting him out of that suspension to coach immediately.

I really hope the Cs get some compensation.  Sources (the Nets) say the Cs will let Ime "freely" leave.  The Nets have some PHI picks from the Harden/Simmons trade so they have some 1st to spare.
